Leopard killed after mauling six in India

Officers shot and killed a leopard after it strayed into a village and attacked six people in West Bengal, India, according to media reports.

The leopard attacked a woman and two men, The Australian reported.

People in the densely populated slum village of Prakash Nagar climbed onto rooftops as forestry officers pursued the big cat and vice versa, Sky News reported. Several attempts to tranquilize it failed.

Things seemed to calm down after the leopard sought refuge in bushes, but it leaped out at three officers, Sky News reported. An officer finally wounded the animal, and it later died at a veterinary clinic.

One forestry officer was reported critically injured.

There are too many people everywhere. How do we make fewer people? It's the problem behind everything that's a problem, except for earthquakes and big meteor strikes.

What about the 1st Commandment that says we can't have any Gods before God? Something about engraved images? A cross is engraved is it not? You're a fraud. Our creator doesn't need a middleman.

Idol Worshiping is oddly accepted by Christians. You are smited for worshipping a idol of a golden cow, but it is ok to worship a idol of someone on a cross, One of those strange things about the faith.

Yes, Teddy is right, it is graven images. Some people (Jehovah's Witnesses I think?) think that includes crosses, but pretty much every other denomination thinks that included everything EXCEPT crosses. It's false idols, not all idols. Engraving is not the same as graven. Look it up.

What's interesting is that people worshiped the cross even before Jesus came to the earth. it is no secret that "Christians" practice Pagan rituals and Greek mythology. The Bible states clearly that Jesus followers were not to use idols in their worship. The cross is in fact an idol, as are statues of saints, the virgin Mary, etc. Christmas and Easter are other examples of things not taught in the Bible. Rather, they are taken from Pagan traditions. So called "Christians", are far removed from what the Bible actually teaches.

      Look at these scriptures.
      Matt. 15:1-6
      Matt. 7:21-23

Gremlin, can you back up your thoughts using the Bible. Where for example did Jesus say not to worship any idol except a cross? Where do his disciples actually make and use crosses? You can't use the reasoning that "Most denominations do it so it must be ok" You are aware that Jesus said that their would be a great apostasy right? Where many would fall away from Bible teachings, yet claim to be Christians.

I feel terribly sorry for the victims and the leopard. Clearly, the forestry officers had not enough experience nor equipment to handle the animal and the animal just did what it was supposed to do, protect and defend itself from its enemies. This incident saddens me further because I'm a Buddhist and Buddhism teaches us to protect all life.

First off, nobody cares that your a Buddhist.

Second, I doubt that the forest rangers that patrol an area next to a slum town.. in India.. are equipped with the latest and greatest in tranquilizer gun technology.

The leopard and the people both did what they are supposed to do – protect themselves from attackers. The leopard just happened to lose.

Jeannine, I'm sorry people seem compelled to jump on you, because I think you bring up a worthwhile point. While I can't really second-guess the action taken to protect people from the leopard in this case, it does bother me how quickly in many places around the world, including in US zoos and cities, we shoot to kill animals that are "in the wrong place" (when in fact, in many cases, the animals are exhibiting natural behavior on their home territory). I think it is always good to at least raise conscious questions about our practices with animals! And I wish people wouldn't be so quick to criticize in a dismissive way.

Sorry, I love cats dearly, but if it came down to a person or a cat, gonna have to go with person. Unless maybe the person caused the problem intentionally. Then I say let god or whoever sort it out.

http://www.barbarajking.com-And if you showed up "in the wrong place" that leopard wouldn't think twice about killing you. We like to think we're so far removed from the rest of the animal kingdom, but with just about every species it's "see a threat, run it off or kill it."

Is bashing other peoples' religion/practice part of your normal, daily activities? Do you think your opinion is right above everyone elses? Do you think you practice the "right" religion? Why do you take the time to bash other religions?

I will pray for you tonight, ds123.

Does CNN even vet stories anymore? The leopard was not killed, but was hit with rubber bullets and later released in the forest per NDTV. http://www.ndtv.com/album/listing/news/caught-on-camera-leopard-attacks-forest-guard-10956#/slide/6

While people getting injured isn't funny, the series of pics was- especially #4: 2 guys on the ground, leopard jumping at the guy standing on the van, and another guy running in panic. Just tranquilize the damn thing!

k... i had to giggle at the guy running away as well. The cat was just doing what cats do... sleepy -> nap, hungry -> hunt. We as people like to think of ourselves as the top of the food chain when in reality we are just food for something more hungry and faster than ourselves.

leopards have a bad way of stalking people who are stalking them. These big cats are deadly and they should never belong in private hands. In the wild animals kill and I am sorry this cat died but its a man eater its a predatory cat they got the taste for human blood and the only way to stop was to shoot it. I pray for the victims and send them my love and wish they a fast recovery.

That's not true. Just because an animal attacks a human doesn't mean they are a man eater. It's only when the animal is stalking and killing humans for prey that they are maneaters. They make the distinction with grizzlies all the time. They won't shoot an animal that kills to defend itself unless they have to.

The people form west came to India and started killing wild life in India around 150 years ago and almost wiped out animals like tigers and leopards. Now the same part of the world cry about protecting the animals because somehow they realize that they need to protect these animals! And this is even more interesting: The people of the same western culture buy stuff from poachers who kill protected animals. LOL.
