Singer Amy Winehouse found dead, UK press says

Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.

The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.

But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.

The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.

She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

But there was trouble.

Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll  on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.

Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.

"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."

Somewhere there is a disappointed drug dealer and several tatoo artists who will suffer large decreases in income in 2011.

you know how she probably died? She died because that guy who is killing everyone in Norway killed her, with somebody who he knows in London.

Aaaand of course, there's all the cynicism from all over, "She had it coming", "She doesn't deserve sympathy, she was a druggie", blah blah blah...SCREW you guys. She's a human being, regardless if it was the results of her addiction that caused her to pass on. Don't forget she also had been battling emphysema and other respiratory problems. But again, even if it was an O.D., she's a human being, and addiction is a terrible, terrible thing, and it's tragic that she didn't get the help she needed. R.I.P. Amy.

This is not tragic if her death is drug and alcohol abuse related. Nobody forced her to ingest drugs and alchohol, she chose to put these dangerous substances in her body of her own free will. Just as overweight people countinue to eat high fat foods and then die from heart attacks and strokes – I don't feel sorry for them either.

I'm not happy that she is dead, that's always a waste. I won't mourn her though. I mourn kids who saw a cop and then got shot for trusting him. I mourn kids who have no parents because both died of AIDS and they live in a craphole in Africa. Etc. etc.

Even though you can see something like this comming, it's still such a shock & loss! I'm sure her family is devastated! I've been a fan of her music & awesome voice since she landed on the scene, & was rooting for her to get her sh!t together! This is too sad for words! I did note that she was 27. She's now inducted in the "27 club" along with notables like Jimi Hendrix,Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison etc. who all died at age 27! It's an exclusive & impressive club, but you do Not want to aspire to it!! I hope she has found the peace that eluded her in life!!
