Singer Amy Winehouse found dead, UK press says

Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.

The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.

But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.

The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.

She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

But there was trouble.

Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll  on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.

Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.

"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."

First – everybody has parents, siblings and friends, does not lessen the fact that she was a walking time bomb. Second – her music stinks, and the only reason anyone knows her name is because she was a walking time bomb. Any coverage of her has been out of morbid curiosity.

She was a walking time bomb but she also had a very good voice. She was a mess but her talent can't be denied.

Her music stinks is clearly your opinion which you are free to have
But millions thought otherwise and her being an addict was not the only reason she was reported on, unfortunately once a person such as her is found to be an addict and does erratic things the press jumps all over it and pursues it harder and harder because they know people gobble up junk news and it makes them more money, so in effect the news companies made money off her addiction

I think a lot of people don't understand the fragility of the human mind and the power of addiction. I just had a friend check back into rehab, he has fought with demons since his teenage years. Who know if Amy had a steady foundation as a child, who knows if the people around her was creating an environment to make it easier to partake in drugs and if they did shame on them. She could have suffer from depression, bipolar or a combination of mental issues. I hope she finds peace.
