Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.
The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.
But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.
The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.
She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.
But there was trouble.
Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.
Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.
"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."
What a waste. People shouldn't die in their 20s... I'm sad for her family... hope she finds peace now.
sad that she couldn't escape her demons. hopefully she's in a better place now.
You obviously don't understand human relationships and the tragedy of life lost at such a young age. Go crawl back into mother's basement and hop on your blowup doll.
god bless, you,ve now begun your next existence, good luck and your next calling will have more meaning for you im sure...miss you sweetheart!
I rather see Lindsey Lohan d ead.
This is the sad result of her career. Rest in Peace!
This is a good example to use, to teach your kids to stay off drugs. Amys best contribution to society to date.
Shame on you Keith, god forbid anyone in your life who might have an addiction, are you not education on life, its a diease stupid and not a good one to have. She was a human being and a beautiful one at that. Promising singer an orginal one. Get a life
Another Kurt Cobain. Poor woman.
May she rest in peace. This lady could sing so it is tragic that the demons of her life got the best of her.
It should be "throw-back," not through-back.
Oh no...she's through! ; )
FAIL!
That's exactly what I thought when I read that, frustrating!
That's a grammatical error, not a spelling error.
The 27years old curse!
that only applys to talent this was more a coincidence than curse
I was JUST thinking that! Why do the talented ones always peace out at 27? We are now stuck with Katy Perry with no drug problem in sight!
I kind of expected. And still it is sad what drugs and alcohol can do to a young mind. Ms Lohan please !, this could be you next time !!!
Sad irony of her name being winehouse and she dies from an addiction (yes, it's probably drugs not alcohol but still) and she was exactly my age. Very young. Not young to not know what drugs can do for you but young concerning young to die
Hi Kevin,
I'm 45 and only have only bee off Oxy and Booze for a year. Also only started doing it 3yrs ago!! I think age doesn't matter, just what you are trying to self-medicate. I'm thinking Amy wasn't able to find peace or happiness in everyday life without drugs, just as I couldn't. Lost love of my life but at least not my life, I wish you and everyone else on here well!
Too bad she could not overcome her addiction demons. When her songs emerged I quickly ran out and bought her music – not a bad song on that first cd she put out. RIP Amy!
