Singer Amy Winehouse found dead, UK press says

Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.

The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.

But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.

The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.

She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

But there was trouble.

Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll  on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.

Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.

"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."

I can't help but just not care. She made herself famous by writing a song about being an unapologetic junky, and people feel SORRY for her? Why?

Amy Winehouse is no longer with us, let us have the decency to withhold our judgement concerning her lifestyle. To be honest, I'm not a fan, but my wife is and she was saddened by the news of amy's passing. Keep in mind, we all have vices... who is to say ours won't lead us to a similar fate?

are you kidding? She was a drug addict/alcoholic. It's certainly tragic and sad, but far from shocking.

Shocking? Really? If you're "shocked" that she's dead, this is probably a bad time to tell you the truth about Santa, the Easter Bunny, and Reaganomics.

The woman obviously wanted to die. She fell off the wagon so many times that she got used to laying on the ground. Hard to feel sorry for her.

I am truly sorry that you do not understand the depths of addiction. This woman suffered from an illness that eventually over took here and claimed her life.

Please do not disparage people's memories with ignorant rants such as the one you have just posted...

While I was never knew her music, I am very saddened that she found life so painful that she had to escape it in this way. Way too young. Very sad.

This is sad...but drug addicts and alcoholics are dying daily...multiple rehabs is not the answer...if you are suffering from alcoholism or drug addiction, I suggest you might want to try surrendering to the programs of AA, or CA, or HA, or any A. I've seen hundreds and hundreds of miracles in my time. I personally am a recovered alcoholic...I don't suffer anymore...the problem has been removed...I "joined" AA...sponsorship, service work, fellowship...they told me when I got here..."rarely have we seen a person fail who has THOROUGHLY followed our path..." I started taking direction from a guy on that path and doing the things he was doing and my life has never been the same...absolutely free...and I was a daily drunk who tore through the lives of others...If you need help, please call us...We'll help...RIP Amy

Wonderful testament steve g. Hopefully someone reading your comments might find this helpful and help them avoid a similar faith. May Amy RIP. I love her singing and listened to her often on utube. I pray all other Amys out there get the help they need before it's too late.

What did she have in common w/Hendrix, Morrison & Joplin? They all died at 27.........what DIDN'T they have in common? Hendrix, Joplin & Morrison had TALENT..........

Anyone who says she didn't have talent must not have listened to her music. This isn't Lady Gaga or Britney Spears that we're talking about. She had a very strong voice and deep lyrics.
