Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.
The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.
But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.
The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.
She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.
But there was trouble.
Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.
Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.
"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."
So it goes.
YOUR GOING TO ME MISSED!!!!!
Wow, I am so sad! Yes, she was a drug addict, but I really loved her music. 🙁
its to bad her life is cut short she had a good voice , my thoughts and prays go out to her family and friend my you R.I.P. AMY WATCH OVER THE LIL ANGELS UP THERE
i know what drugs and alcohool can do to you. I end up for being a top university student to a number in the jail system. Lucky for me i got up and came to the surface...she couldn't....life goes on no matter what...
That b#$ch got what she deserved
Sad to say but we saw this one coming right? You cant stop someone if they wanna go down this road folks. Didnt think she had a big talent, but she had a big monkey on her back. Rest Easy Amy. Sorry for her family and friends left behind
People die everyday through methadone complications, withdrawal, other related things that happen while getting clean and backslides.....Her parents know she was trying. That says alot. My wife showed me a picture of her awhile back and I made the crack that she wasn't long for this world.....I hate being right...RIP AMY.
It's not every day that you come across a voice like hers, it is indeed a rare gem. Not only was it refreshing in the world of pop sensations without talent, but it was also a throwback to the old world of rock and roll and jazz, real people, real voices. Although she had a troubled life with drugs, to be honest I believe that she was the real deal. She played the music to play it, it wasn't about the money and the fame. And for these reasons she will dearly be missed. As a singer myself, musically she was a huge inspiration to me. I will never forget her. Rest in peace Ms. Winehouse, your legacy will live on. I'm sure she's partying with Janice Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix right about now. RIP.

They should only allow adults on this blog with adult comments. Amy Whinehouse was a real person with real problems and you want to make stupid and immature comments about a person you've never really knew or met?
"The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that was considered a through-back to the Motown days of music."
cnn needs a proofreader.
Very sad. She had a lot of talent. She was creating a new sound and her music was from the heart.
Can't say that about too many individual musicians coming out of the corporate music scene. Hell, more than half the teen musicians in the last 50 years are just alternate brand names for the Disney corporation (Miley, Britney, Christina, etc).
Amy you will be missed. RIP from UTAH, USA
Having been in recovery for almost 22 years, I for one can relate, my sympathies go out to the family and her many friends and fans. This is a horrible disease that sometimes wins, as is the case here. It is not an easy battle to fight, but with a good support system it can be done, but it is an everyday battle for day 1 until you die. The talent is a waste, but the real problem was there before she became famous, let this be a true wake up call for all of us, plz, plz, plz talk to your children, so this DOES NOT happen to you or yours.
