Singer Amy Winehouse found dead, UK press says

Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.

The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.

But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.

The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.

She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

But there was trouble.

Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll  on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.

Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.

"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."

RIP Amy... She had an amazing voice and I only wish that we could have heard it longer. I can't believe that some people are saying things are absolutley disgusting! You all didn't know her personally... Only read what the tabloids printed about her... She was another human being who did NOTHING to you or anybody but to herself... To pass judgement about her life because she was a drug addict and based on nothing else is down right rude, if you knew her personally and did something to hurt you, that would be understandable. I am sure that she had many lovely qualities to her but those were never showcased because they don't sell stories that some of you all obviously read!

If there is one small bright spot to this tragedy, it is that she got out while still on top.

I'm glad that her career never sank to the level where she had to do a duet with Bono or Snoop Dog.

Still on top? She spent the last three years stumbling and mumbling, and riding her earlier success.

Hopefully no one will talk about any "tortured poet" nonsense. She was an addict whose voice some found interesting for a short time.

A romantic notion, I believe. Purism only works in a vacuum. There comes a time where we all have to sing our duets, if we want to grow. A public life does not necessarily trump a private one, she may have encountered other contributions and meaning to her life, had she not bowed out for the last time before she even knew life at 30. It is what it is: a life cut too short.

On top her last concert she was booed off the stage because she couldnt even stand up without falling over not to mention she didnt even know the lyrics to her own songs. After that heart pounding performance, she cancelled the rest of her tour then went into hiding so she could commit suicide with her drug and drink. Sorry but i'd call that rock bottom dude

I blame it on her last name. If her name was waterhouse this would have never happened.

If only Ms. Winehouse had repented of her sins and received the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of her life, He would have cleansed her with His precious shed blood and set her free from the power of sin and destruction.

I suppose all the Norwegians who died at the hands of a "Christian" hadn't given themselves to Christ either, right? For every person who throws their life away like Winehouse did, there are thousands whose lives are ripped away from them. Does that get filed under "The Lord works in mysterious ways" which is the usual response?

BTW, death does tend to free one from...everything.

I hope now she can find her peace. Rest in peace Amy !!
It's sad that any one would have anything harsh to say about Amy's passing. We all have that one member of our family that is in the same situation. Can't find help, don't want help, but needs help. We all crowd around the television when a story comes on about L. Lohan or C. Love. We all help put them on this road. Dont judge !! Be kind and give those that need a hand a hand. Please !!

Sadden that we all will not know when Amy W. would of reached her zenith in the fabulously music she sung. Addiction is a very difficult monkey to get off one's back (Betty F. is sadden the most). Amy W. may you RIP and our hearts go out to her family!

Too bad, she had talent. Such a waste to throw away your life on such addictions. I just hope others open their eyes to her mistakes.
