Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.
The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.
But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.
The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.
She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.
But there was trouble.
Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.
Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.
"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."
After the recent 'Earlier' and 'Recent' photos of her, I'm not surprised to learn of her passing.
She made some really foolish decisions and wound up slamming into the wall of reality.
I'm sorry she's gone. Maybe others will learn from her sad mistake.
Oh Pleeze!....don't bring "Jesus Christ" into this picture....you sound like you are part of some cult??..or brainwashed, maybe????
oh, like Anders Behring Breivik did? You so-called religious people are the most disgusting individuals out there, letting other's ideas infiltrate your minds, and some even killing in the name of your gods.
Y'all in the South we mourn this loss of life, talent and the joy she brought into so many lives. Comfort, peace and blessings to her family, friends and fans.
Have you been to an AA meeting or met an alcoholic? Most of them are devote in their belief. Get off your judgmental high horse. You don't know her beliefs and you certainly don't have the right to judge someone else's life.
oh shut up.
2011 years of ignorance and counting!
hey id rather be brainwashed. id rather believe that by simply believing that God loved me so much. he died so that I could have life. that I could go to a beautiful place called heaven. and by showing love and compassion towards others I might change their lives so they could go to heaven too
Whoa-Whoa-Whoa! Who ya quotin' there? I did not in any way or form mention Amie specifically. Did you actually read my book?!
RIP girl....
so sad to hear this being a parent my self seeing your child die before any parent leaves a empty hole in are hearts the sad thing is when there record label's know and provide the drugs and alcohol to them, as i have lost my best friend to heroin on his 18Th birthday as i was the one who found him on the bathroom floor in his moms house and this was her only son what is really sad is he spent 30days in rehab to get clean. what makes me mad is so many are out to judge someone they do not know or what drove them to that point as for my friend it was his step dad would beat him and back in the 70"s know one would help cause he was a cop so who would believe a teenager over a cop?.
She was a very talented person.
I am sorry that she is gone.
Her music will live on, though, and for that, I'm glad.
RIP now, Miss Winehouse; your demons are at rest now.
It is amazing to read posts by those of you who blame Amy for her addiction, and telling others to learn from her who are also addicts. Did it ever occur to any one of you that addiction is not something you can just say.... "Wow, I better stop or I might die!" and do it?
Addiction is an extremely powerful curse and not something any addict can beat with ease. It is the worst of the worst in one's life and is a demon in disguise that is very hard to beat away.
I feel bad for Amy because that curse consumed her life and she was never able to get a handle on it. That's how bad she was addicted. Poor thing.
Over 100 people shot in Norway, no one gives a crap...one British druggie overdoses, everyone is so sad about her.
Amen!
was driving my silvarado down route 11 when I heard the shocking news about Amy Winehouse. Feel bad to
hear about her drug overdose death. Some of you people should think to yourself,(What if that was a member of my
family) Would you like to hear or read some snotty comments about Amy.People are too quick to place judgement on
others when somthing like this happens. May she rest in peace.
The body is gone, she is finally free, we'll hear her in the blowing wind, the rustling trees, the rolling ocean, the bird's sweet tweet....the pain is gone now, but that voice will always be one of the saddest and sweetest we might ever know. RIP Amy, spread your wings, and take to the sky.
That was indeed very poetic, nicely said indeed.
