Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.
The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.
But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.
The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.
She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.
But there was trouble.
Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.
Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.
"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."
I was never a big fan of Ms. Winehouse's songs, but could tell she was talented and different. It is sadly not a surprising news, but I had hoped she would realize in time how much she had to live for.
They wanted her to go to rehab, but she said no no no
RIP Amy. so young and so talented...it is such a waste..
Condolences to her family. Obviously addiction is a horrific thing. It is a shame she was unreceptive or unable to take advantage of the support offered.
Natural selection at its best!!!!!
you're a disgusting person
:(:(
Another example of someone who just wasted away her talent and did not really care about her fan base otherwise she would have cleaned up her act!!
Rip amy
Very sad. A great loss to her family, fans and the world of music.
oops
Although a death is always a tragedy, I think most would agree hers was not a surprise. Her lifestyle appeared to the casual observer like a slow, drawn out suicide. Sympathies to her family and friends...
She achieved more in her 27 years than a lot of folks. Give her credit for that.
For the millionth time.
Leave that crack alone!!!
Sad..it's the price you pay for the decisions you made
Utter truth here.
sad but predictable
Lohan is next.
guess when they tried 2 make her go to rehab she shoula said 'ok, ok, ok'
funny in a sad way
Ok that comment is played out and tired! It's really verging on stupid and pre-schoolish too.
I predict at least 1750 posts from people thinking that they are being funny, creative or original by referencing the Rehab song. DON'T BOTHER. It's not funny, creative or original...Please take at least ten seconds and form an original thought.
Nah it will be funny every time.
agree. It's insensitive and idiotic.
i agree, regardless of her troubled life she was an amazing talent. RIP girl!
HEY... 1750..no reply is as funny as we think...til I look at your faaaattt wife..now that is sooooooooo funny to look at!!!
Good point but some people can't help it because their brains don't allow anything better.
As someone recovering recovering 20 years plus, it hurts to see someone fall victim to the disease. Sometimes people won't get well, sometimes,I fear they can't. I've experienced it personally and I have watched it time and again take lives and wreck families. Alcoholism and chemical dependancy is a disease just like diabetes. The symptopns effects and treatment don't quite connect at times. Alcoholims and addictions present themselves with symtoms almost irrelevant to the substances and that tough for some people to understand, much less accept.
@AEZEL – shame and curses upon you. I did not like Winehouse- her behavior, her music or anything else. She had a disease which past a certain point she had no chance .It got her her family and her business partners- and not a damn one of them deserve that. If you don't know an abundance about a subject, then it becomes an opinion and yours is offensive.
