Singer Amy Winehouse found dead, UK press says

Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.

The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.

But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.

The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.

She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.

But there was trouble.

Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll  on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.

Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.

"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."

Apparently you thought it was important enough to see the headline, click the link, read the story and then put in the effort to leave a would-be dismissive comment about the end of a young woman's life, so yeah, apparently it IS news.

Why are so many people so hostile to those who are famous, and so invested in appearing to be so jaded that you don't care about sad events? If you really didn't care you wouldn't be here, but your reaction to the death of a young woman who clearly had both a lot of talent and a lot of problems is to lash out and act like you think you're above a story you PATENTLY OBVIOUSLY did care about. Try being a person and realizing that being snide is not really a way to live your life as a decent human being. And yes, being a decent human being IS important, like it or not.

If it wasn't important, why did you click on the story and take time to comment?

Rethink that. She wasn't too kind to Amy and I fear she just knew no better. She was an addict and addicts love pain and drama. She had a boundless supply of both and it killed her .

RIP Amy. She actually did have talent once upon a time. It's a shame, her "people" were sucking money off her till the day she died and she will probably be more profitable for them now that she's gone.

Not surprising. Only a matter of time before other celebs follow. Lohan, Hilton, etc. So sad and unnecessary. Condolences to her family, I know her mum tried to support her, but there's only so much a family can do to protect someone from themselves.

Rest in Peace. Unfortunately It's safe to say that most people are not surprised by this, wish she could of treated herself better. Sad to see this is the type of life people choose to live.

By reading the article, one might deduce she was a singer who was involved in drugs and alcohol who had a song called "Rehab" and who recently cancelled a tour. A well rounded education that includes reading comprehension always pays off.
