Singer Amy Winehouse was found dead at her apartment in London on Saturday, the UK Press Association reported. She was 27.
The "Rehab" singer had a history of battling drugs and alcohol and recently left a British rehabilitation program that a representative said was intended to prepare her for scheduled European concerts.
But she cut short the European concert tour in Belgrade, Serbia, last month after she staggered around the stage and stumbled through several songs.
The troubled British singer was known for a stirring, soulful voice that many considered a throwback to the Motown sound.
She had a breakout year in 2008 when she won several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year and Song of the Year for her hit “Rehab.” Her album “Back to Black” garnered Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.
But there was trouble.
Winehouse's volatile marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll on the singer's career. The couple divorced in 2009 after a stormy two years marked by drug addiction and arrests.
Winehouse’s parents went public with their efforts to help their daughter, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.
"A gradual recovery, which is good,” Winehouse’s father, Mitch, told the Telegraph. “With slight backward steps - not drug backward steps, more drink backward steps if you follow my drift. I think that will be the pattern of recovery."
Such a waste of originality and talent! Only 27 and because of drugs she gave up SO much in her life. R.I.P. Amy!
Sorry to hear about this however she was always on the highway to hell...just another another celebrity eaten alive...RIP
Lohan is next on the chopping block.
So sad – was looking forward to her recovery and more amazing music... heartfelt sympathies to her parents.
THERE'S SOME PEOPLE OUT THERE THAT OWE ME 100 BUCKS. I said last time she was in the news for getting booed off the stage that she would be dead by 30. Suckas!
Good Riddance!!!!!
ya someone interfered... dam it
I think this is incredibly sad. What a tragic life, so much talent yet such a horrible addiction. Like Janis Joplin, she would never reach her full potential with the ball and chain of drugs and alcohol weighing her down. Really too bad.
Not shocking, but saddening and tragic...
Ultimately sad. Waste of such talent. I don't get how people have millions of dollars, fans, talent...everything they ever dreamed of and they just want to end it. There's people out here struggling to even get hired at McDonald's and wearing beat up clothes and these people are just gonna end it. Come on. Everyone worships people like Kurt Cobain–who selfishly killed himself when he had a great career and a CHILD and left some bullcrap note to justify it.
Not a complete surprise, but what a HUGE waste of talent! RIP Amy
So sad. She had an amazing voice. Unfortunately, the addictions got the better of her. RIP Amy.
No, she got the better of her. Other people who have addictions are big enough people to admit it and seek help. Instead she was a defiant little brat who went to her grave because of pride and stupidity.
But being completely real...what kinda world do we have to live in anyway's...whose to say that she's not better off.
Damn
Poor thing. Rest in Peace sweetheart.
