Latex Casey Anthony mask fetches almost $1 million on eBay

A big spender on eBay shelled out almost $1 million to get inside Casey Anthony's head.

A Los Angeles eBay user called "prophunter" wound up with six rubber renderings of Anthony's face that had been used in a parody video and put one of them up for auction on eBay. That first mask  garnered a winning bid of $999,900 Wednesday. It beat out 104 other bids that started at $25 on  Monday.

In the description field for the item, the seller billed it as "possibly the most frightening mask on the planet."

The mask's expression is, well, expressionless, capturing the image that became a national obsession over the course of Anthony's almost six-week trial for the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Anthony was acquitted on July 5, drawing the vocal ire of crowds outside the courthouse, social media users and television personalities nationwide.

On HLN's Showbiz News Tonight on Wednesday, Popeater.com columnist Rob Shuter pronounced then-active bidding "tasteless, but it is capitalism."

For comparison's sake, the most expensive set of Charlton Heston's stone tablets from "The Ten Commandments" fetched $87,000 at Christie's in 1995, which would be a little more than $120,000 today.

I'd bet that much the person won't pay for it!

Just wait until Halloween roles around and Casey masks run for $10 at the costume shops. The Ebay buyer will feel pretty stupid for shelling out that much money on his mask. The mask looks like an angry monkey BTW.

It is another senseless act- why didn't the buyer use their million $$ to feed or help struggling infants and toddlers in this country? Or use this $$ to invest in some sort of program that would help young parents learn what is proper nutrition , the importance of education and ethical behavior to their fellow man instead of perpetuating this obvious lack of education and values personified by Casey Anthony and this buyer.

You cannot force anybody to be charitable. Sure it is a frivolous and messed up purchase, but that was the buyer's (if real) money, not yours, to spend as they pleased. Just because charity is good does not mean that spending on oneself is evil.

Well if we aren't the most bizarre, corrupt society on the globe. People are dying of starvation and thirst in Somalia. This country is owned by China and about to go belly up with another debt ceiling hike, and some wing nut pays out a million dollars for Casey Anthony's mask? Want to bet she gets some royalties for having her image used? Are we not saturated enough with this pathetic excuse for a mother that we need to keep her image before us with masks and gods know what else some greedy entrepreneur can envision?

Anna this is more than likely a stunt. Now about Somalia... I could care less. We tried to help them in 93 and look where it got us. The way I see it... less prirates to deal with. 😉 I can think of a million ways to spend a million dollars without wasting two cents on that country.

Does anyone believe the bidder will actually pay that amount or even has $1 million? It's a total joke bid.

For Pete's sake. Someone's just goofing around with a fake EBay ID. Noone's really going to pay this much for the mask.

I thought it was a joke at first. (I'm still not sure it isn't) Maybe casey bought it herself 😉 it would be a clever disguise. 😉
