Latex Casey Anthony mask fetches almost $1 million on eBay

A big spender on eBay shelled out almost $1 million to get inside Casey Anthony's head.

A Los Angeles eBay user called "prophunter" wound up with six rubber renderings of Anthony's face that had been used in a parody video and put one of them up for auction on eBay. That first mask  garnered a winning bid of $999,900 Wednesday. It beat out 104 other bids that started at $25 on  Monday.

In the description field for the item, the seller billed it as "possibly the most frightening mask on the planet."

The mask's expression is, well, expressionless, capturing the image that became a national obsession over the course of Anthony's almost six-week trial for the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Anthony was acquitted on July 5, drawing the vocal ire of crowds outside the courthouse, social media users and television personalities nationwide.

On HLN's Showbiz News Tonight on Wednesday, Popeater.com columnist Rob Shuter pronounced then-active bidding "tasteless, but it is capitalism."

For comparison's sake, the most expensive set of Charlton Heston's stone tablets from "The Ten Commandments" fetched $87,000 at Christie's in 1995, which would be a little more than $120,000 today.

Did Casey Anthony get anything out of them using her likeness??? Did she insure her likeness with Lloyd's of London?? She should not get a dime from any of this!!!
I can't believe anyone would pay that kind of money for something in such bad taste! It must be a lark or publicity stunt!

Could someone really be that stupid to pay $1M for a silly mask? I believe a lot of people bid but never actually follow through. What's next, the Norwegian murderer?

I doubt the winning bidder was legitimate. I think shills bid this up with fake accounts to prevent the actual sale, its happened before. A good method for those who don't want to see certain things get sold for abnormal profit.

I am not one to usually express my feelings for all to see, but I find this extremely distrubing and morally wrong. All society is doing is telling this person it is okay what you did and we will reward your bad behavior with money or publicity. Shame on us as Americans to tolerate this absurd behavior. That million dollars could have gone to a good cause....... our children. The ones hungry, battered, abused that can't help themselves. Twisted in every sense of the word.

This is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe someone would pay that amount for something so stupid. This money could have been used towards a chairty for missing children. What is wrong with people.

Keep in mind a winning bid soesn't mean there is actually someone on the other end that is willing to pay for the goods. Anyone can bid 1 million dollars even someone who has 0 dollars. I like to think whoever bid this up that high has no intention of buying it (was disgusted by it being auctioned) and the person selling it will end up having to repost it over and over again.
