Latex Casey Anthony mask fetches almost $1 million on eBay

A big spender on eBay shelled out almost $1 million to get inside Casey Anthony's head.

A Los Angeles eBay user called "prophunter" wound up with six rubber renderings of Anthony's face that had been used in a parody video and put one of them up for auction on eBay. That first mask  garnered a winning bid of $999,900 Wednesday. It beat out 104 other bids that started at $25 on  Monday.

In the description field for the item, the seller billed it as "possibly the most frightening mask on the planet."

The mask's expression is, well, expressionless, capturing the image that became a national obsession over the course of Anthony's almost six-week trial for the 2008 death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. Anthony was acquitted on July 5, drawing the vocal ire of crowds outside the courthouse, social media users and television personalities nationwide.

On HLN's Showbiz News Tonight on Wednesday, Popeater.com columnist Rob Shuter pronounced then-active bidding "tasteless, but it is capitalism."

For comparison's sake, the most expensive set of Charlton Heston's stone tablets from "The Ten Commandments" fetched $87,000 at Christie's in 1995, which would be a little more than $120,000 today.

CNN can't be this stupid. The seller and "bidders" are all in cahoots. No money will change hands on Ebay. But yes, a million dollars in publicity was generated! Come Halloween there will be truck loads of these masks for sale!

I'll believe it when it's actually paid for. In the meantime I'll assume it's a fake bid.

If the person wants to spend that kind of money put it to better use by helping out a person who needs the money to support his family. A family member is a single father who works HARD to support his son. He owns his own home, makes immense sacrifices sending his son to a private school, paying his taxes, trying to save money to send him to college, paying for their private health insurance and receives no help from the government. Teaching his son the true value of a dollar and standing on his two feet, responsibilty for himself and his actions. Peoples values have taken a huge decline not for the good!

If someone has enough $ to pay $1,000,000.00 for this mask, then they could easily pay maybe a grand to get a company, or artist, to make them the exact same mask. Paying a mil for this mask is just ridiculous when you could easily find someone to make you one at a fraction of that cost. Who would be stupid enough to pay this? I think it is a fake bid.

Silly people, the winning bidder isn't going to pay. There's no law requiring the bidder to pay. Some people intentionally drove up the price of the item for yucks.

Looking at the feedback left for the seller, I'm guessing the winning bidder has no intention of paying, which of course is a violation of eBay's rules.

The person who made the mask, the person who sold the mask, and the person who bought the mask as well as anyone offering any type of money to the sale of this trash mask are all just as guilty in contributing to the death of little caylle as casey anthony herself...what sad, sorry people ...
