F-bomb in valedictorian's speech heard 'round the world

Global news outlets and blogs in Asia have focused this week on a young woman who graduated top of her class at a prestigious college in Singapore. Except they aren't raving about the student's accomplishments. They're abuzz with a bad word she dropped in her graduation speech, according to Singapore's Straits Times.

"We f–king did it!" Trinetta Chong exclaimed to congratulate her peers at Nanyang Technical University's 2011 graduating ceremony. The 23-year-old's remark came after what a local reports called a "rousing" six-minute speech. A video of the speech was uploaded to YouTube on Friday and viewed, as of 12:30 p.m. ET Monday, more than 4,000 times.

Chong has apologized for the remark as has the school, according to Yahoo Singapore. "(The line) really reflected how I felt at that time, and I think it resounded with other students from our graduating class too," she said.

There may be little reason to worry about her or the graduates of NTU. The Straits Times recently published a story focusing on another graduate of the school who is making $20,000 a month.

Singapore is an English speaking country. English is the first language and people learn their mother tongues like Chinese, Malay and Tamil as second language in school. Since it is a multiracial society, English is the language for communication at all levels of people.

If Jesus is judging us on the words we use we are ALL in deep do-do. Seriously people think about that for a way to feel unworthy. that is legalistic religion man-made rules. Just like Mennonite/Amish women who use the verse that women should dress like men ~ men wore robes(long dresses?) when that law was written! whoops!

I've noticed that the younger generations( teens-twentys) put the vilest language into most every conversation, mixed company included. So now when I drop the F-bomb, nobody cares that I hit my thumb with a hammer ! 😉

That's what right-wing fanaticism does. It says that using Tea Party lingo today is cool indeed. Besides, having such right-wing parents, these kids are taught not to respect anyone or anything and take whatever they want whether it belongs to them or not. How can one expect these kids to respect others if they don't respect themselves?

Can't she be "caned" for saying that? Heard that a UK tourist is facing caning for crude behavior. Does caning only apply to non-citizens in Singapore?

Once again, the Republicans, and the Tea Party didn't invent the "f" word, although that troll would like to think so if it furthers its trolling agenda.
I am not a member of the Tea Party or the GOP, (I am a GDI), but I don't respect anyone who trolls.
I guess that means you, Fakey.

A Colorado Springs police officer charged with se-ually assaulting six children pleaded not guilty Tuesday to 10 counts of child po-nography charges related to DVDs that were found in his house.
oshua Carrier, 30, was arraigned during a brief hearing before 4th Judicial District Judge David A. Gilbert.

The seually explicit material – found on DVDs in Carrier’s Colorado Springs home – is what sparked an investigation that ultimately led police to accuse Carrier, a former school resource officer, of inappropriately touching children, authorities said.

A preliminary hearing on the 78 seual assault counts, all related to six children, was postponed until Sept. 15 after prosecutors said in court they intend to file more charges based on accounts from other children who have stepped forward.

The judge set a July 26 hearing for any additional charges against Carrier, should prosecutors pursue them.

Carrier is on unpaid leave and being held at the El Paso County jail on a $500,000 bond. Authorities launched a probe into his conduct at Horace Mann Middle School in School District 11 last May after announcing that detectives found child po@nography in his bedroom during a search of his home.

Police began investigating after Air Force investigators told them that Carrier’s name came up during an investigation into online p@-rn trafficking.
