Gotta Watch: Windshield worries

Driving can be dangerous, but it's not just distracted drivers or speeding-ticket dodgers that makes it so tricky. Sometimes road hazards can turn into near-death experiences. A piece of wood can become a dangerous projectile or a sneaky snake could ruin your summer travel plans. You've gotta watch how these windshield worries more than interrupted a few road trips.

Snake's surprise – Snakes must love modern transportation. They've slithered onto planes and stressed out Samuel L. Jackson and now, it appears they've taken a liking to automobiles. In this video a scaly serpent slides up a car's windshield as it cruises down the interstate. How would you have handled this scary situation?
[cnn-video url="http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2011/08/01/dnt.tn.snake.surprise.wpty"%5D

Flying debris – A two-by-four unexpectedly flies through the windshield of a moving car. Luckily, no one was hurt. Get an inside view of the frightening event.

Now that's horse power – Imagine driving down a road when a horse literally runs over your car. The result is a compelling, if not shocking, video where the animal crushes the windshield and roof.

Like the dim-witted suburbanites they are, they never considered pulling over and removing the snake or just to let it slither off on its own? No. 'We're too white and important to stop for one of God's creatures. We'll just let it drop on the road and run it over. It's the American way, after all.'

Um, what does race have to do with it? Like, any person of color would by definition pull over and gently return the snake to its natural habitat? Dang, let go of your issues.

If we left it up to the animal lovers and environmentalist, We would still have dinosaurs running around, is n't it bad enough we have killer bees, 12 gators and 30 ft sharks dismembering children just wanting to swim. Stop the insanity...its mind over matter.. I don't MIND that snake being crushed because it doesn't MATTER.

These are the same people that hoard animals until they over run their lives and (we) society have to pay for the cleanup

@Old Nick: So how's that vegan diet of yours going? I actually do stop for animals, no matter what kind they are. Once I tried to help a turtle get across a busy highway, but I didn't make it in time. I stopped for a mother duck and her ducklings too and stopped other cars from driving through. I applaud people like you that don't eat meat and care about your fellow animals. 🙂

Turtles don't cross highways, they swim in the sea. Maybe it was a tortoise?

@Roger: Thanks I'm not a zoologist, but I always like hearing new information. You're right though. I think the tortoise was actually set up by the hare. Poor guy got smeared all over the road.

@Roger: Actually, even sea turtles have been seen on land. They emerge from the water to breed. That's why they have signs in Hawaii warning of turtle crossing. They sometimes cross the highways to lay their eggs.

In any case, a tortoise is a type of turtle. From http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/turtle:
"any reptile of the order Testudines, comprising aquatic and terrestrial species having the trunk enclosed in a shell consisting of a dorsal carapace and a ventral plastron." The keyword there is "terrestrial."

Okay, upon seeing the horse video... nobody stops for nothin in America. The guy doesn't even brake until the horse is directly in front of him. had a friend who drove through a horse. It literally exploded... guts everywhere. To this day he has a photo album he pulls out at parties.

if the woman video/driving would have been remaining a safe distance behind the truck/trailer in front of her, she could have probably avoided this board through the windshield (it really doesn't matter how foolish the other drivers may have been acting, she was acting equally, and possibly more, foolish by driving distracted and recklessly). she's actually lucky she didn't die or have serious injury ... .THREE CAR LENGTHS does not mean ride their ass to video their license plate numbers ....

Yeah, because it is so complicated to pull a freaking car over and stop. They never even considered it. Beautiful snake killed because they have brains of mush. It was an excellent learning opportunity for the kids, blown. Watch kids, this is how we let a beautiful snake just get killed because we're too retarded and scared to know what to do. Typical middle class suburban warriors who probably scream like little girls whenever their house creaks. Drek!

Not all snakes are beautiful or beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder just like someone elses garbage is anothers treasure but for you to name call and ridicule people because they didn't act or believe like you is worse than killing a gross snake. Grow up and stop your crying and be a man. The majority of the human race does NOT find snakes beautiful nor are they kept as pets....you sir are in the minority so keep your minor opinions to yourself and society will thank you for it.

"The majority of the human race does NOT find snakes beautiful..."

I wasn't aware that you were made spokesperson for the majority of the human race. Just admit you are a frightened little diaper baby and snakes scare you, so you kill them. Please admit that so we are clear whether you are spokesperson for all of humanity, or a pea-brained little baby who wouldn't survive 15 minutes in the wilderness before you died of dehydration from all the crying.

Nothing cracks me up more than reading the writings of scared little children who see a snake and must kill it before they pee their pants in fear. You people make me sick and I'm embarassed to have you in my species.

I wouldn't have pulled over either. I would have been found dead in a car accident after seeing that gross snake. As far as the people not stopping for horses running wild, now that's an entirely different scenario. What's next pull over because a "beautiful" spider needed to be saved. I say "you love snakes then good for you" but I can't stand them and will, crush and destroy any that come in my path.

No, because you are a frightened little diaper girl who screams every time you see something moving in the grass. Please go cry to your mamma. I'm sure she will wipe away your tears and hold you tight and kiss your scared little anti-snake booboo and make it all better. Drek!

Yep, it's just a snake. And you are just a scared little diaper baby who kills snakes because they frighten you and make you cry and scream and shiver. And you don't even know how embarassing you sound. Seriously, I don't know how we survived this long with your type amongst us. All of you scared of snakes little girls really make me want to smack you up side the head.

the film cut off of the horse... I was very interested in seeing if the horse suffered any injuries....An impact like that very easily could have broken it's leg/legs.... Did the horse survive the accident? I would have given the horses the right of way and pulled over immediately..Hitting a horse could be catosrophic. the snake? I would have let it fall off as well.... No sense in endangering your family by pulling over on the freeway. Many people are killed that way and I woulnd't have risked it for a snake... Sorry.....
