Bin Laden Group to build world's tallest tower

Saudi Arabia's Kingdom Holding has hired Saudi Bin Laden Group to build the world's tallest skyscraper in Jeddah, Gulfnews.com reports.

Jeddah Tower will be 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) tall and will contain a Four Seasons luxury hotel, apartments, condominiums and offices that overlook the Red Sea, Financial Times reported.

Kingdom Holding is paying Bin Laden Group, one of the world's largest construction companies, about $1.2 billion to take on the five-year project, according to Financial Times.

Saudi Bin Laden Group was founded in 1931 by Muhammad Awad bin Laden, the billionaire father of terrorist Osama bin Laden. It built much of Saudi Arabia's highways and infrastructure, as well as entire districts and cities.

The company constructed additions to the Muslim nation's two holiest mosques in Mecca and Medina. It operates throughout the Middle East and was chosen in 1964 to reclad the golden Dome of the Rock mosque in Jerusalem.

Over the years, Saudi Bin Laden Group has expanded into a conglomerate that includes engineering, manufacturing and telecommunications, according to business analysis site Hoovers.com.

Osama bin Laden, the 17th of 52 children, inherited part of his father's fortune, but his radical activities led the family to disown him in 1994.

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud, a nephew of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, announced the tower building contract Tuesday. He owns 95% of Kingdom Holding, according to Financial Times.

When completed, Jeddah Tower will easily surpass Dubai's 828-meter (2,717-foot) Burj Khalifa as the world's tallest building.

The Chicago firm Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture designed the project and will oversee its development, Gulfnews.com reported. Adrian Smith was one of Burj Khalifa's designers when he was with Skidmore Owings and Merrill.

.... do you know the prep time it would take to do a controlled demo of WTC? your soooo stupid.. it takes months to do a 40 story building... I think 100's of thousands of people would notice the building being preped for that... there would be missing walls, support beams expossed, det cable everwhere... let me guess your 15-25 and smoke lots of weed. I worked in the towers I would of known if it was being preped for a demo... shut your mouth until you know something about anything....

Beautiful design. I look forward to the completion. It's amazing what oil money can buy. It is a bit ironic that the Bin Laden Group is designing and building the world's tallest building, but after all, they had nothing whatsoever to do with '9/11' – their radical son Osama did that and he was kicked out of the family long ago.

Wow. You have completely lost your grip on reality. Using the B-25 example is a joke, right? A B-25 weighs only about 1/8th as much as the planes used on 9/11, and it was traveling much slower. Take a physics class so you can avoid making such stupid comments in the future.

  5. Bin Laden wealth

26 members of the Bin Laden family helped found the Carlyle Group over 20 years ago. The Group purchased the mineral rights to old Soviet-era oilwells that have since been refurbished bt the Carlyle Groups subsidiary, Halliburton. Now the group sells oil to China through Afghan pipelines running from the Caspian Basin, and for just 27 dollars per barrel. Now you know where the money to build this tower came from, and how it is that China can make stuff cheaper than we can. We pay about a hundred for what China pays 27 for, oil.

Saudi Arabia can produce oil for about $5 per barrel, and we get it very cheap. The $100 per barrel thing is the market price, which is only set high so oil companies can make billions in profits and oil producers can line their pockets.

don't worry. I'm sure some christian nutjob will try to fly a plane into it. would be a bit ironic. lets get that guy out of Norway and let him do it. he's christian and crazy.

You fail to recognize the vast differences between Christianity and islam, filthburger.

You're right peter. Islamic fundamentalists would fly a passenger jet into an office tower with the sole purpose of killing as many people as possible. A christian fundamentalist would take longer than a day and a half to forgive a mass murderer for killing his wife and child.

The idiot in Norway was no more a Christian than the terrorists are Muslims. They are both twisting the teachings of their religions to suit their own sick purposes, but neither is a true adherent to their faith, or they wouldn't have done what they did.

    Joe Kady,

Being an engineer myself I know there is no way a plane or 2 for that matter could bring the building down unfortunately. Ask any structural Engineer he/she will comfirm that

Huh - Are you kidding me? What degree do you have in Engineering ? (Computrer Science?!), I have a masters in Architect & Material Sciences? . Just because you can't understand how something happens does NOT mean you are correct with ASSuming you know anything. The Intense heat fueled by high winds and oxygen melt steel all the time. How do you think Steel is produced !? And the design of the World Trade Centers were based on the 4 internal steel structures and the outer shell was just that – shell and not structural. And than make matters worse that due to the scare of asbestos in the 70's many of the Steel structure in the building were not adequatley fire protected – but who thought there would be a plane filled with Jet fuel blasting into the center - You are an idiot for thinking it was an "inside job"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this just the construction company affiliated with the FAMILY of Osama Bin Laden, and not Osama himself? His family disowned him, and are not the ones responsible for his actions. Maybe do a little research before leaving such stupid, ignorant comments.

Stupid, ignorant comments are some people's specialty, unfortunately. You are right. They can't help what one of 52 children did.

These people brred like vermin and fund them forever. 52 children? makes octomom look normal. these wackjobs funded sonny boy to keep him quiet and AWAY. He was against modern technology – so why did he ignore this construction giant? Without his family money he was just another rag head in the desert shouting at the rocks. This building is their raised middle finger to the world. Shame on you for your head in the ground.
