Stocks plunged Thursday in their single worst day since the 2008 financial crisis.
The Dow tumbled 512 points - its ninth deepest point drop ever - as fear about the global economy spooked investors.
"The conventional wisdom on Wall Street was that the economy was growing - that the worst was behind us," said Peter Schiff, president of Euro Pacific Capital. "Now what people are realizing is the stimulus didn't work, and we may be headed back to recession."

Since ive been sick and now watching alot of TV,ive noticed that almost all of the people on Fox,CNN,MSNBC, Stock market reporters, even regular TV shows and commercials and in our Government are almost all Jewish!! I dont have to wonder who is controlling the markets, I know!! Greed and power is not what we need!! Fighting wars for Isreal is not what we need!! This would be considered symitism, but im JEWISH!! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!
During the depression-1929 or somwhere within that era? People started jumping out of windows! RICH people-get your PARACHUTES! Poor people!..-Do not catch them!:-)Timberrrrsss!:-)Don't forget your shades. All jokes aside, may God HELP us all.
The only people that aren't well versed in survival are the wealthy softies who buy everything. There are lots of people with guns and if the bottom falls out then it will be a turkey shoot. Their useless paper money will not buy them anything and I doubt they know how to even change their own car parts or any thing else that requires some skill and hard work. I'm cool with them losing their money and many people I know are used to roughing it.
You are an idiot
@Joe: Such an eloquent two cents you have provided. Thank you. 🙂
HOW TO SAVE A TRILLION DOLLARS A YEAR OR MAKE A TRILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF JOBS RIGHT HERE IN USA, STOP A TRILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF FOREIGN AID EVERY YEAR GOING TO COUNTRIES THAT DON'T GIVE IT TO THEIR PEOPLE ANYWAYS AND ASK THEM WHAT THEY NEED, THEN CONTRACT AMERICAN COMPANIES TO SUPPLY THOSE THINGS, FOOD, GUNS, WHATEVER... YEAH ITS THAT SIMPLE, AT LEAST YOU WON'T LOSE 60 BILLION IN CASH LIKE THEY DID IN IRAQ WHEN THEY WERE SENDING PALLETS OF CASH OVER THERE IN C-130 AIR-FORCE SUPPLY PLANES AND LETTING IT GO OUT THE BACK DOOR OF THE HANGER AT THE AIRPORT SOMETIMES BY CAMEL LITERALLY IN BACK PACKS, BILLIONS OF DOLLARS IN CASH... DON'T BELIEVE ME GOOGLE "BILLIONS IN CASH LOST IN IRAQ" IT WILL MAKE YOU SICK TO YOUR STOMACH, WE WASTE SO MUCH MONEY PLEASE STOP..
A writer above referred to the suicides in 1929.
Near our house upstate, there is a Georgian mansion where a millionaire hanged himself in that Depression.
THAT'S NOT THE THING TO DO.
If you got stuff once and then lost it, you can get it again.
CSnSC may have been joking, but his Will-Work-For-Food signs are a good idea. That IS what one does when stuff is lost.
Certainly, one doesn't ask "the government" for a job. Even more foolish is to expect the government to supply one with food for the rest of his life: the government will run out of food eventually.
A close friend of mine who was born into wealth that I cannot imagine achieving has, at times, had to walk from one house to another asking whether there was any work to be done in that house. He has also been hired–and fired–as a waiter because he could speak French and write the daily specials in italic script, learned in expensive private schools.
Guess the end of the story: he persevered and got a good life back. His hobby is horses. He never hanged himself.
A lot of bloggers here hate my opinions and the way that I post them.
The main reason for that is that the implication of INTENSELY HARD WORK OR INTENSE THINKING is at the core of all my hated posts on economic matters.
It will always be so.
In anticipation of replies beginning, "but what about the person who," I say, REMEMBER ANDRE, the surviving sea turtle.
LET ANDRE REMIND YOU OF DARWIN.
If you don't know the relationship of Darwin to sea turtles, maybe you should hang yourself.
@JIF, as usual, outstanding.
@ CSnSC:
Thank you.
I am attacked so much here that I feel as if I'm Nietzsche's sole tree growing on a hill.
I'm glad you come here.
@JIF
well said & uplifting.
Its exactly this spirit in people which make a nation strong or we would all be going around seeking hand outs , come bad times.
I would add though, that we the people need to do something about how things are not working out in Washington. Need to get our voices heard and put the pressure on those self serving politicians who are responsible for this mess.
@JIF, know how you feel but there two sides to the hill. And one tree drops many seeds. I dont agree with you on every issue but you manage to get your point accross with a firm confidence that some confuse with arrogance.
I enjoy different views. Two people in full agreement have no reason to speak to each other.
@ CSnSC:
I know where you and I disagree, and that's all right.
Different thinking makes dynamite collaboration.
I admire what you have done in your life, as much as I know.
@ saywhat:
I agree with you too.
As soon as they let me run Washington, I assure you that it will be perfect.
They already have the best martini and champagne parties I've ever attended in this country.
@ CS:
PS:
I'm envious of your boat. It never made sense for me.
Someday.
CS,
I know that I come across sometimes as arrogant, in the meanings of the word from both origins.
Please tell your performer daughter that, from my experience, if she ever walks onto a Big stage without a big head, she'll walk off with a broken neck.
Humility is for the Tonight Show.
I've recovered from broken necks.
