Job seekers got some surprisingly good news from July's numbers.

Jobs show surprising growth

The U.S. job market strengthened in July, a welcome piece of good news that sharply contrasted with Thursday's sell-off on Wall Street and readings pointing toward an economic slowdown.

Employers added 117,000 jobs last month, well above the 46,000 jobs added in June, the government reported Friday. After a shockingly weak jobs number the previous month and a spate of other negative economic readings that followed, many economists had been bracing for the worst from Friday's report.

Trading in U.S. stock futures, which point to the direction stocks will take when regular trading begins at 9:30 a.m., surged after the report was released.

    What we need is a jobs program like roosevelt had in the 30's.get the jobless rate below 7 and watch are country come alive.

    My question is this I am unemployed and have been for two years. Always looking for a job but never the less my check is $ 226 a week and there taken taxes out of that so really I get $ 174. Yet still the unemployment office is now telling me that I am not trying like really what do u want me to do I worked for seven years just starting out. Now they paint the picture as if I am begging!!

    First off, yes Pizza Hut jobs will help our economy. Secondly the messiah could slap you in the face and you still wouldn't believe in anything. Pessimism keeps your fat asses rolling!

    That's great news. What's really shocking is the fact that alot of you people on here are so pessimistic. Almost every comment on here is so negative. Yes the Govt might be so screwed up at times but, for today, try and enjoy the good news. Did you guys really want to hear more bad news? I didnt. Not saying I wanna hear lies either. There's been so much turmoil in the past few weeks that it was about time we got some good news. Smile and have a great day. Don't be so negative people.

    God forbid that the economy show positive signs under Obama! These numbers must be doctored! Give me a break you Fox News sheeple...skeptic to anything positive, but if this were negative oh how you'd be clamoring. You wouldn't think twice about accepting the numbers then

  9. "Growth"? That ain't growth.

    Every month, approx. 150,000 people enter the US job market, not counting illegal aliens. Add to that the number of people who have been and still are under or unemplyed, and you tally-up to the fact that we need about 1/4 million jobs/month for about 3 years straight just to get back to where we were in 1998. Their reports bring you fear of terror, and they bring you fear of debt-crisis. Where's the fear for our jobs crisis? They bullhorn the other...why don't they amplify this instead of trying to decieve US with numbers? 9% unemployment my azz.
