Deadliest one-day incidents for coalition in Afghanistan

The deaths Saturday of 30 U.S. troops, including 22 Navy SEALs, in a helicopter crash in eastern Afghanistan make it the deadliest single-day incident for coalition service members in the Afghan war, according to a CNN count.

Since the war in Afghanistan began in October 2001, several other large-scale incidents have claimed the lives of 10 or more personnel.

United States

April 6, 2005: Fifteen U.S. soldiers and three civilian contractors were killed when a coalition helicopter traveling in severe weather crashed near Ghazni.

June 27, 2005: Sixteen Americans - eight soldiers and eight sailors - were killed when their MH-47 helicopter was downed by a rocket-propelled grenade near Kunar province.

May 6, 2006: A U.S. helicopter crashed near Asadabad in Kunar province, killing all 10 U.S. soldiers aboard.

October 26, 2009: Three Drug Enforcement Administration special agents and seven U.S. troops were killed in western Afghanistan as they returned from a raid on a compound believed to be harboring insurgents tied to drug trafficking.

September 2, 2006: Fourteen British troops died when a NATO International Security Assistance Force plane crashed west of Kandahar. The crash is believed to be caused by a technical problem and was not the result of enemy action.

August 18, 2008: Ten French soldiers were killed and 21 injured when about 100 insurgents attacked a patrol in Kabul province.

August 16, 2005: Seventeen Spanish troops died in a helicopter crash. Spain's defense minister at the time said an accident was the most likely cause of the incident but investigators hadn't ruled out an attack.

9/11 was obviously a setup, Bush, Cheney and crew are traitors to the country, this has cost thousands of American lives. Thier target was Iraq for their oil fields but they used 9/11 (planned event) to attack Iraq, Afghanistan was never the target. It is time to get the heck out of there, there is no reason to be there, it is wasting lives, money (as Bin Laden had planned). Being a Vietnam Vet I am saddened by the deaths of innocent soldiers in a game of greed being played by Oil companies and the Congressional Military Complex, we were warned...we didn't listen....again.

@ zMan very intelligent points! 9/11 was an inside job clearly! It's unfortunate that half of America was brain-washed through lie's of the Bush administration to wrongfully believe that 9/11 was a foreign terror attack! There are U.S. government officials who set of the entire 9/11 scam solely to go into an economic war with Iraq to heist oil and convert into USD and in Afghanistan it's the opiate drug trades/mineral mines all for huge profits for the big corporations that Bush awarded contracts to like our former vice-president Cheney's Haliburton Corp for example. The other half of America and many Europeans clearly know 9/11 was planned as an inside job to put fear into americans to support a fraudulent war for profits to the investors, elected officials and big corporations!

KARZAI says he doesnt need the US presence of help and that the USA can leave. WE SHOULD PULL OUR TROOPS OUT OF AFGHANISTAN /PAKISTAN and bring them home –its time for Karzai and his military to take over the defense and handling of Afghanistan and the Taliban –we are wasting a lot of blood, people, and money on a country and a people who regardless of sides or position, DO NOT WANT US THERE and ARE USING OUR SOLDIERS AS TARGETS OF PRIDE TO SHOOT AT AND KILL –so lets all stop this delusion–Bin Laden is dead -AlQuaeda is in Yemen and elsehwere-if Karzai fails, TOO BAD-we tried and he tried and TOO BAD.

All of the US equipment is obsolete. The US needs everything new. All of the air force aircraft, the navy’s ships and aircraft carriers and all weapons and missiles are crap compared with Israel’s. They update everything everyday, here in the US you have to wait 30 years, like the shuttle. The only concern now in the military is the gay sh!t. For that they update soon, so now the concern is how their hair or what color of underwear sorry panties the soldiers use. Those killed in the chopper were gays so don’t worry America, we are safe with them guarding our asses or fukkin them. Nobody mourns gays.

The blood of these dead soldiers is on Obama's hand.. He should be focusing on ending the war... Now our credit rating is down graded. The faster we vote him out of office the better for the USA..

We need to vote everyone of them out of office...It might start with Obama but we can't stop there. Both Dems and Reps need to go! They all have there own agenda and it's all about MONEY! When will we see the Party for the People emerge?

If our GOP House of Republicans would vote yes to bring our troops home now not only will the immediate move assist in cutting the debt and save troops lives in Afghanistan-Iraq-Pakistan (middle east regions) but, the House of Republicans should also vote to tax the corporations awarded oil-mineral and opiate drug trade contracts in the middle east by the Bush administration. None of those corporations are paying taxes to cover the multi-trillion dollar economic war despite all the big corporations are profiting off this so called war including government officials that invested into major stocks of these corporations prior to war being declared that are making them all self-centered fat rich cats! When a senator can suddenly afford to buy a 15 million dollar ocean front mansion on $200,000.00 salary it's these elected officials making a profit at the cost of innocent troops lives! We are not needed and have not been needed in the middle east from the get go! This was never a war on terror! Clearly, it's a economic war!

At best Obama can only encourage the House of Republicans to agree to end the war in the middle east which they will not agree to doing immediately since many in the House of Republicans have invested into stocks of Haliburton-Shell and other large corporations that Bush awarded contracts to without a fair bidding process where each corporation and it's investors are making millions per year for investors and many trillions for the big corporations!~ Why would the House of Republicans desire to end the war if it will kill their multi-million stock investment profits per year? Obama cannot bring the troops home without a vote in the House of Republicans! We do know that the current leaders of Iraq and Afghanistan want the american troops to go home right along with most of the american people! The House of Republicans are standing in the way of ending the war, debt ceiling issues, fair debt cuts and fair taxes for the super rich! The House of Republicans hold full blame and the power to bring our troops home as with every issue involving the U.S. that is impacting all of us in the negative! President Obama cannot legally by pass the House of Republicans that calls all the shots! Obama simply accepts or rejects what the House of Republicans bring to the table on law changes!

I read blogs earlier and i did not agree with them until i really started to think about it and that is one chopper with 22 seals on it got shot down didnt really smell of deception But they wernt just seals they were SEAL TEAM SIX and to me that stinks to high heaven of conspiricy To put that many six team on one chinook whth no air support is beyond stupid and that to me is what sends up the red flags I would really like to see a independant commission investigate this not that it would do any good aoyways if who is involved that i think is RIGHT MR PRESIDENT

I noticed a majority of deaths were in helicopters. Maybe the technology is flawed.

Parachutes from planes to high for RPGs maybe? Still flawed, but less in a mass-death sense?

    @ zman @ GOPhouse

Well put. There are a lot of questions out there reg 9/11 attacks. The veteran BBC/ITN correspondent Alan Hart who investigated, raises thought provoking points. Catch his interview to BBC on 9/11 on YouTube.

In 2001 Talibans had offered twice to hand over Osama Bin Laden to us if we could prove that he was behind 9/11 attacks. Of course we didn't then and FBI even today has no evidence. Bush had outrightly rejected this offer.
The consequences in American lives lost & trillions of tax dollars are staring us in the face.

Its worrisome. "All conspiracies are not theories".
The American public deserves to know the truth, but that is not going to happen now. May be a couple of decades from now.
