NATO helicopter crashes in Afghanistan; at least 38 killed

At least 38 people were killed aboard a NATO helicopter that crashed in eastern Afghanistan, according to a statement from Afghan president Hamid Karzai's office.

Thirty-one NATO service members and seven Afghans were aboard the helicopter as it traveled through Warduk province, a restive central-eastern region of the country, the statement said.

A Taliban spokesman says the group claimed responsibility for shooting down the vehicle, in one of the largest coalition losses of life in Afghanistan in recent history.

International Security Assistance Force spokesman Justin Brockhoff confirmed the crash and acknowledged the helicopter had been flying in area where there was reported insurgent activity, but declined to offer additional details.

Of course the people in the right-wing news media will never talk about that. They want us all to believe that the NATO forces are heroes, which of course they're not!

I tend to agree with George. The NATO forces are no more the heroes today than the Russians were the villains back in the 1980's! How the right-wing media tries to brainwash us to no end!!!

This is a tragic day for the American forces operating in Afghanistan. My heart goes out to the family members of the lost heroes. We need to end this war and bring our troops home. We can’t force theses people to see that life has more to offer. This is their way of life and they have proven that they will fight to death to keep it their way. The people with the strength in Afghanistan are the Drug Dealers and the two faced politicians that don’t give a damn about the poor people and will fight whomever tries to come over here and change their way of life. Let’s build hope and dreams in America and let these people fight it out amongst themselves. We got to take care home first. We are in need of new schools and brand new text books in Miami-Dade County. I want to see my tax dollars helping the folks in my community not blown up in Iraq and Afghanistan Mr. President. Osama Bin Laden is dead, what now is the excuse for our occupation in the Middle East. 2014 is too long to wait when we have American taxpaying citizens that are in jeopardy of losing their health care benefit. 2014 is too long away when we there is discussion going on to change the retirement benefits of the innocent service member fighting in the senseless war. Why are we building roads in Afghanistan with American Taxpayers dollars that the government of Afghanistan will not maintain? We need to hold the politicians in Washington accountable for the way they have thrown away our tax dollars nation building abroad when we have people sleeping on the street in front of our own door step in America.

Nice job Rick! Our hearts go out to the families of all including all nationalities. We must GET OUT and let them fight it out. We get no benefit by being there. We don't own their sand boxes, oil wells or anything else. We're wasting $ that should be spent here and we're paying for it with our flesh and blood. GET OUT of these countries now Obama.

obama said he'd bring these troops home when he was campaigning. So let me get this straight. Obama lied to our faces. Then he goes and destroys our economy and gets us downgraded. What's next?

You're an idiot. In the first place he ended the war in Iraq, as he promised. Second, he said he would increase our activity in Afganistan because it is the central front in the war on terror. Third, it was Bush and the retardlicans who have led us to the downgrade of our credit rating. Bush more than doubled our national debt from $5T to $11T. The hick teabaggers don't understand that government spending in essential to our economy and are cutting those jobs while the private sector is not hiring, and they refuse to raise taxes, which is essential to get us out of this debt. The S&P already told us that due to the tea baggers and their lack of compromise, our credit rating would be downgraded. This is NOT Obama's fault. It is years of workto destroy out country, by the retardlican party.

I'm not going to sit here and tell people I'm praying, that doesn't make a difference.

I'm not going to tell them that God is watching you, because if there is a God he watches all of us and would frown at either party.

To make an actual difference, we need to get our men and women in uniform out of these countries. Isolationism might have been a bad strategy during World War II, but this situation is entirely different. Our economy is tanking, pushing more money in the military that could be used at home is a terrible strategy when most of this money is being wasted on nothing but securing a few oil deposits. Drill here, forget their oil because the it's not worth costing the lives of our soldiers. Terrorists organizations can't be stop, you cut off the head of the snake and two will grow in its place.

I trust these countries will find a way to protect their citizens from harm, but it can no longer be on our dime. We've given enough blood and money, our debts are paid for the damages we have caused there, it's time to move on and put our minds together to fight a common enemy: Our economy's downward spiral.

Let China or someone waste their time there, whatever we gain from these 'wars' isn't worth it.

Prayers for the families. Taliban should get literacy education and Holy Bibles from Americans. If Muslims don't get Bibles, any effort is vain. Arabs are not like Asians.

I suppose that the right-wing news media is going to claim that this crash was due to "mechanical failure" as always. I wonder if the Taliban did shoot it down. If they did, the right-wing thugs in Washington will want this kept under wraps! We won't know for sure either way!
