Warren Jeffs sentenced to life in prison for sexual assault

Warren Jeffs was sentenced to life in prison on Tuesday after a jury deliberated for only 30 minutes.

The polygamist sect leader was convicted last week on two counts of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old who were his "spiritual wives." The jury sentenced him to life in prison for the first count of aggravated sexual assault and 20 years for the second count of sexual assault plus a $10,000 fine. The sentences were the maximum allowed for each count. The judge ruled that the sentences be served consecutively.

On Monday, the two sides rested their cases, without the defense calling any witnesses.

Earlier Monday, jurors weighing punishment for Jeffs heard audio recordings that prosecutors say show he had sex with underage girls and encouraged group sex.

At times difficult to hear, one of the tapes recorded sounds of two people apparently engaging in intercourse. Other recordings captured Jeffs instructing what prosecutors say were underage girls in how to please him. Girls could be heard giggling in the background.

Jeffs, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was charged after a 2008 raid on a ranch his church operates near Eldorado, Texas.

The sad thing is this nut will continue to run his clut from inside prison. He has convinced his followers that he is god so why would they abandon him.

Texas like any other state has it's share of child molesters. If you read more than one news paper you would know this.Too many people rely on the computer or the T.V. as their only news source.I am not from Texas but have been there many times and it's a great state with a lot of great people. They do more than most states to clean it's house.

I am absolutely glad. That is so wonderful. Life in prison for him is the best outcome in this. Thank God for justice.

I was thinking that Jeffs could convert to the Muslim religion, and then when he dies, he'll have 50 virgin wives waiting in heaven for him 🙂

Why does Islam have anything to do with this psycho? Please refrain of attacking any religion you don't know of. Get your facts right, then come and talk.

I'm glad he got the maximum sentence. He is a monster. That group should have to sell off all of their assets so they can provide counseling for all of his victims. Otherwise, many will be scarred for life. My heart hurts for them.

There is no real justice for this type of criminal. Shameful that we have to pay for his continued life in prison.

Jeff and his group is nothing but a cover up for pedophiles. These people are the most disgusting group of humans I have heard of. The women should all be jailed along with their pedophile leader. The children should be taken away and put up for adoption. The police crack down on internet pedophiles, why should these Mormons be any different.

I.E. Warren Jeffs and his doctrine are those of the non-christian Cult called Mormonism. The words used in the reports of the cellestial brides, wives etc come from the doctrine and teachings of Joseph Smith. Yes Warren Jeffs got what he deserved and in prison he will get more but a much more important plot was missed. Its the teaching of the LDS and although it wouldn't be admitted it is. Look into it. And pray Mit Romney doesn't make the White House he is spiritualy lost. And its not about Texas its about eternity. Yes the closer U get to Utah the more prevalent and obvious the sister wives will be but the non-biblical cultic teachings of the LDS are wide spread. When someone gets caught U get a brief look into what they are all about. Peace Out

Sounds like you have head up where the sun don't shine. Jeffs is part of the FLDS, not mainstream Mormonism. They were kicked out of the Mormon Church back in the late 1800s. If you don't know the difference it would be better if you shut your mouth and keep your hands off a keyboard. It's religious bigots like you that need a psychiatrist. I seriously doubt a fleet of John Deere tractors would be able to pull your head out.

    • uh, Beavis............

Umm, Rocketman is actually quite right. The FLDS is exactly what the current Mormons were before the USA decided it would take Utah and all church assets in the 1890s. Fortunately, their god whispered a manifesto in their profit's ear about banishing polygamy and VIOLA, statehood ! Prior to this manifesto (notice not a doctrine or covenant) church elders took several dozen wifes (Brigham Young = 57), some as young as fourteen.

Rocketman, you need to know wiflash and joanie are not allowed to read and discover these facts because their church has declared them not faith promoting.

Beavis – you are obviously not competent to understand the message I gave. The FLDS was kicked out. KICKED OUT! You are obviously in the same boat with rocketman. They were kicked out over a hundred years ago and are not part of the current Mormon faith. I can't make that any clearer. What happened in the past is in the past. Pull your head out of your a** and catch up to the current times. You seem imcompetent when it comes to understanding anything about the Mormon faith. Too bad! Someone needs to pray for you both.
