Marine to receive Medal of Honor next month

President Barack Obama next month will present the Medal of Honor to the first living Marine to receive the recognition for actions in Afghanistan or Iraq, the White House announced Friday.

Dakota Meyer was in Afghanistan's Kunar province in September 2009 when he repeatedly ran through enemy fire to recover the bodies of fellow American troops.

He will be honored during a White House ceremony September 15.

Meyer will be the third living Medal of Honor recipient from service in the current war theaters.

There goes Obama again, trying to glorify this obnoxious war to gain political points and keep this war popular with the people. Enough already! It seems like all the presidential candidates this year are for this obscene war with the sole exception of Texas Rep. Ron Paul and that's disgusting!

How true that rings, RUFFNUTT. What particularly makes me angry is the fact that the right-wing politicians in Washington prey on the ignorance of the people for their own political ends. The people need to wise up or we'll only get more of the same!!!

Is just completely impossible that he's getting the Medal of Honor because he displayed extraordinary courage under fire? I think it's in pretty poor taste to try and make this out to be a matter of political maneuvering. Also those of you who blame Obama for the Afghanistan war seem to have forgotten two things: 1. The war in Afghanistan was started by Bush. 2. The terrorists who hijacked commercial airliners and suicide bombed the twin towers and the Pentagon on 9/11 received training, material support, and shelter in Afghanistan with the complacency of the Taliban government. Waging war on the Taliban to disrupt their ability to support terrorism was the right thing to do. Going into Iraq on the other hand, a country with no direct involvement in the 9/11 attacks was an unjustified aggression and a foolish diversion of our resources from the Afghan front.

There are other Metal of Honor recipants, why mention just this one? They are all heros in one way or another, in fact there are probably many heros that are never heard of.

Because of curiosity: I went to Google with the question, "how important is the war in afghanistan". The answer I read was as stupid as the war it's self. I came to the conclusion that we could have gone after Ben Laudin (however it is spelled) without starting a war, and probably could have gotten him sooner.

Trust the Troll Patrol to try to take away the proud moment and achievement of this Marine.
As if they could *ever* have achieved what this young man did.
That requires courage, which this troll sorely lacks.

    Semper Fi!
    Congratulations.

Sorry folks, I didn't post that stupid statement above. If this troll wants to glorify this obscene war, I wish that he'd at least use his own name to do it. Enough already!

Good job Marine any many thanks for all of your sacrifices. Much appreciation to the thousands of others who don't get officially recognized either. When there are so many people criticizing this sort of acknowledgment, it affirms the successful job you have done. Life was made very soft and comfy for some to sit behind a laptop and find fault and easy solutions to a very complicated situation. Nio one likes war, death, pain, suffering and separation from family. If it was easy and not so complex, someone would of ended all this long ago. In the meantime, thanks for representing me at least. Christopher Dycha

Right-wing mumbo jumbo? Last I checked that's called showing appreciation and respect for the people that are brave enough to put their lives on the line to ensure our security. Did I mention that I'm a flaming left-wing, tree-hugger, democrat?

Come on Chris, anybody with half a brain knows that that stupid war in Afghanistan has absolutely nothing to do with our national security nor with any of our rights or freedoms. I keep getting aggravated with all those ignoramuses who say otherwise. It's just being fought so that Western companies can exploit Afghanistan's mineral resources and for the right-wing politicians to promote their political careers. Think, people for crying out loud!!!

C'mon yourself Ruffnutt. How can you say it's not in the interest of our national security to go after a government who provides shelter for terrorists and allows them to train so that they can attack and kill Americans? Perhaps you that is the ignoramus.

While American are busy keeping patriotism alive, other countries are busy building there infrastructures, education, healthcare systems, economy for a better life for their most precious assets it's peoples. Shame on you America for creating poverty and economic instability here at home. People are in needs of jobs higher income to coup with rising inflation, and some play war games still. It's immature selfish and preposterous. Shane.....
