Rembrandt work stolen from California hotel

Detectives in southern California searched Sunday for clues to crack the case of a stolen piece of artwork by Dutch master Rembrandt van Rijn, thought to be worth some $250,000.

The theft occurred when a curator was distracted by another person, who appeared interested in buying something, said Steve Whitmore, spokesman with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

Most likely already has a fence or buyer. There are tons of rich people who give their eye teeth to purchase a Rembrandt stolen or not.

Sometimes hotels are the sites of art sales–often motels. The "art" is "genuine, hand-painted by pattern" junk seen in motel/hotel rooms.
It could have been an "attributed-to" Rembrandt.
Copies of great artists' style or works still cost money.
    Rembrandt made multiple-copy art too.
