Reports: Pakistan let Chinese inspect U.S. stealth copter

[Updated at 12:02 p.m.] Chinese military engineers likely got to examine the wreckage of the U.S. stealth helicopter that crashed during the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan, according to news reports.

"We have reason to suspect China was given access, but we cannot confirm it definitively.  We have strong suspicions," a U.S. official told CNN.

Pakistani intelligence operatives likely gave the Chinese access to the wreckage, the New York Times reported, citing American officials and other intelligence sources.

The Chinese engineers were able to photograph the wreckage and take samples of the stealth skin that helps the chopper avoid radar detection, intelligence sources told the Financial Times.

When the aircraft crashed during the raid that killed the al Qaeda leader in May, Navy SEALs destroyed most of it to protect the technology. But the tail section remained mostly intact and it was that area that the Chinese engineers examined, according to the New York Times report.

U.S. intelligence is basing its opinion that the Chinese got access to the stealth copter on intercepted phone conversations, the Times reported.

A U.S. official says “we have reason to suspect China was given access but we cannot confirm it definitively. We have strong suspicions.”

Pakistani officials contacted by the New York Times refused comment on the matter. The Financial Times said a Pakistani official denied the accusations.

Both newspapers noted that China and Pakistan enjoy a longstanding military relationship.

The raid that killed bin Laden, staged without informing Pakistan, stoked tensions between the U.S. and Pakistan.

In July, the U.S. said it was withholding $800 million in aid to Pakistan.

"They've taken some steps that have given us reason to pause on some of the aid which we're giving to the military, and we're trying to work through that," White House Chief of Staff William Daley said at the time.

What needs to happen is we need to withdraw COMPLETELY from Pakistan and let them determine their own fate. Do they want to allow Al Qaeda to seize power and convert themselves into an enemy of the United States and other countries that condemn Al Qaeda or do they want to become a country that denounces the brand of terrorism that Al Qaeda represents and continue to receive aid from countries like the U.S.? They can't have their cake and eat it as well. It's time the U.S. left Pakistan to decide their own fate and once the Pakistani people decide how they want to move forward then the U.S. can decide if Pakistan needs to be treated as an ally or as a hostile country that houses terroristic organizations such as Al Qaeda.

I think it is fairly obvious by now that rather than being an ally, Pakistan is running a protection racket. Either we pay up, or they let all hell break loose in Afghanistan and possibly sell nukes to the Taliban. I'd imagine we would have to somehow neutralize Pakistan's nuclear weapons before we can cut all aid – or they will sell their nukes to the highest bidder (Iran, North Korea). Or give one to Al-Qaeda, and act terribly surprised when it goes off somewhere, just like they did with OBL whom they harbored for years.

Pakistanis know who their true friend is (China), and they also know US is there to use and abuse them. History is a good predictor of future and this time Pakistanis are not going for the ride just to be used and abused. US needs to find and show sincerity and respect if they expect the same in return. All that brohaha about $800 million, most of it is just bills for services rendered by Pakistanis. And US is so foolish to do yet again what they did, took Pakistani money for F16s and never gave them the shipment, and then charge them money for parked F16's in Arizona. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me – that is the lesson by which Pakistanis are acting.

Nah – the Paki's need to realize that they are NOTHING. They are a culture of lies and thieves, nothing more. Eradicate them now and the world is one step closer to becoming a peaceful planet.

Wow ya – time to put the resources into India, since they are/were more of a "friendly nation" and thier ties with the British are pretty tight too.

So why not equip India, start bunker busting the ENTIRE country of Pakistan and when were done we incorporate whats left into India. What Pakistan is nuke ready? – Most if not ALL of thier nuke tech (aerial) can be destroyed enroute to target. Pakistan has and always will be a terroristic country – thats all they know and unless thier dealt with swiflty and entirely they will continue to not only be a thorn, but a poisonous mushroom. They have already proven that a bandaid and a handshake mean nothing to them.
