New fighter jet to bolster Russian air force

Russia's new stealth fighter jet made its public debut Tuesday, according to state-run news source RIA Novosti.

The Sukhoi T-50, developed collaboratively by Russia and India, appeared at the MAKS 2011 air show in Zhukovsky, outside Moscow.

Gen. Alexander Zelin, head of the Russian air force, told RIA Novosti he expects the T-50 prototype to be ready in 2013, with "mass-produced aircraft" arriving in 2014 or 2015.

The aircraft is expected to become a staple of airborne defense for both Russia and India, Mikhail Pogosyan, head of Russia's United Aircraft Corp., told RIA Novosti.

"The T-50 will be the newest main plane both for the Russian and the Indian air force," Pogosyan said.

The article from the state-run media source says the Sukhoi T-50 cost the two governments about $6 billion to develop, with India shouldering about 35% of the cost. It is intended to match the U.S. F-22 raptor.

DARPA is the agency developing technology the military is using today. As well the stuff that everyday people use, like the internet.

They are currently developing MACH10 + aricraft technology, which we will see in military many years from now.

hmm, this is interesting. since the Su37 can out fly, out gun, and out run the F-22. Rand corporation did a comparison of the two in "operation, pacific vision." f-22 lost in major ways.

It can beat the F-22 Raptor just by flying, since the F-22's are grounded until further notice.

Hello FSRA! I am a Calgary-based professional pharpgtooher who is doing a shoot for Calgary Co-op in September. I am looking for a 40s/50s era pick-up truck to rent for the day. Know anybody with such a vintage piece that would be interested? Any advise as how to source an old truck would be much appreciated. Thanks, Robert Lemermeyer

How much did they pay the Chinese for the stolen plans for the F-22?

Lots of mumbo jumbo, going on here.
Like this prototype does not have internal W-bay..
Two T-50 prototype performed Flight display 5 days in a row at MAKS 2011.
It has internal bay, between the engines ducts. It also has internal Fuel capacity at nearly 11.000kg.
Its a tad larger than the F-22.
Its Aero dynamic layout is far more Advance vs F-22. It has all moving stabz, it has Levcons that extand down out of this world!
As for Stealth, its not in the F-22, but it will be much cheaper..

2 or 3 years tops the US will test the unmanned version of the F-35. The next gen. Pilotless attack fighter will obsolete T-50, F-22 and J-20. Imagine a dozen coming out without pilots able to make 15G turns and, if necessary, ram an adversary. All the F-35s will have the empty computer bays to add this capability and relocate the pilots to safe air conditioned silos in the US or aboard AWACS.

stary, just because you can't get your life together, doesn't mean you have to be so rude, bitter, and condescending to others. "boy" oh're the child who apparently can't take care of himself.

Those f-35's have vertical take off also. We could have 100k of them sitting in europe. And who care you shoot a few down we will just send another.

Get a job, there are plenty out there...

      @bill watson

The only F-35s wth vertical takeoff and landing are the Navy variants. The USAF and Marine Corps will be traditional birds. It has never been the US Military's policy to create a "wall" of fighters, nor is it economical to put up 100K – $135 million dollar aircraft; you're an idiot if you think that is even possible. We do care if ONE gets shot down! That's a loss of a weapons platform and possible a pilot, which by the way is a 2-year training process and costs roughly $2 million by itself.

Sukhoi knows their business. It will work. Russian advanced fighters do sometimes suffer from smokey engines but otherwise they are formidable.

Considering the F-22 is full of 30-40 year old technology, it's not difficult to make a better fighter. The Chinese have already made fighters and now an aircraft carrier that are better than anything the US has. Russia is not far behind.

Better start learning to speak Russian and/or Chinese...

Perhaps you should look at it from a different standpoint. We designed the F-22 20-30 years ago and they're just now building something that rivals it. I'd say you're vying to spew some rhetoric when if you change your perspective it goes the complete opposite way.

How is the Chinese Aircraft carrier better than anything the us has when its constructed from an old russian one?

Some of you people are retarded. The F22 may have been developed with obsolete enemies in mind, but the technology is NOT 20-30 years old. Gimme a break. That aircraft is so advanced and capable that most of its capabilities are highly classified. And the Russians, they've crashed two rockets in the past two weeks! They have brains, but can't get it together!

China has a better aircraft carrier? You understand it's a diesel aircraft carrier, right? If you cannot grasp the strategic significance between a diesel and nuclear, you got no business talking about this issue.

ooo, I like this! Having gotten T1 s room make-over (her 11th bitahdry present) finished yesterday, my goal for August is to get T2 s room back in order (she's gotten half a room make-over because we had to carpet her room and paint at the same time). Once I get her room put back together I can have my living room and dining room back which have had the contents of their rooms since June. I would actually like to have T2 s room together before school starts but maybe those first few days of school will be the perfect time to finish no distractions.
