Russia's new stealth fighter jet made its public debut Tuesday, according to state-run news source RIA Novosti.
The Sukhoi T-50, developed collaboratively by Russia and India, appeared at the MAKS 2011 air show in Zhukovsky, outside Moscow.
Gen. Alexander Zelin, head of the Russian air force, told RIA Novosti he expects the T-50 prototype to be ready in 2013, with "mass-produced aircraft" arriving in 2014 or 2015.
The aircraft is expected to become a staple of airborne defense for both Russia and India, Mikhail Pogosyan, head of Russia's United Aircraft Corp., told RIA Novosti.
"The T-50 will be the newest main plane both for the Russian and the Indian air force," Pogosyan said.
The article from the state-run media source says the Sukhoi T-50 cost the two governments about $6 billion to develop, with India shouldering about 35% of the cost. It is intended to match the U.S. F-22 raptor.
Is like teco-teco... hehehe
This isn't really news, it's been past prototype stage for some time. This aircraft was designed from the start for export, so it's probably not the best the Russians have in development. I'd say it's more comparable to the JSF (which is also being developed for export) than the F-22, but minus the V/STOL option. The F-22 was developed to be a world-beating fighter and is pretty heavily overkill in capabilities, in the tradition of the F-15 which it was supposed to replace.
YAWWWNNNN..............
India must have huge helmets to fit over the turbans. I have this image of 'Dark Helmet' from Spaceballs flying one of these.
ROFL Michele Bachmann haha – btw i'd hit that
Elvis Presley would have hit that, too, if he didn't die on his birthday...
ROFL Bruce haha, my brother's name btw – Elvis, Death, Birthday, Michelle Bachman hahaha (seriously though, I'd hit that)
We have a "public debut " of a Tea Party freshmen too, so you Russia with your fancy shmancy advanced technology cant beet us.
How low America foaling, what have we done to make this nation "the greatest?" NOTHING , well Tea party and Sarah Palin (our greatest and latest discovery), and more to come. Shame on us, shame on Republicans for holding back this country to the point of senseless stupidity.
You can't be serious? Both parties are completely to blame. You lefties and you righties are all idiots. You're both the outer 10%'s. Join us Independents who enjoy the middle 80% and truly control the political landscape. We voted Obama in 2008, but guess who we won't vote for in 2012...come on lefty, you know. "It's time to saddle this horse" to America's next hope. You Democrats screwed up 2008-2010, thanks for having a Super Majority and wasting it!
if you want to be taken seriously by people who actually make decisions, you should learn the difference between things like:
cant & can't, beet & beat, foaling and failing, etc.
it is one thing to misspell a word that spell check doesn't distinguish from words meaning entirely different things. But it is another to assume you will be taken seriously by those (other than the typical web-poster) when your spelling is at grade level 3.
...and it also doesn't help your case when you are outwardly closed minded.
wow you sound mentally disables put down the computer and pick up a book...tard
Umm....huh? Did you say "...Bumblebeetuna"?
Terrible spelling despite of spell check. Just look into yourself and ask again why the country is failing.
That is a nice jet, I hope those engines are just for demonstration purposes, because those are not stealthy. Why does everyone get in a tizzy when another nation or nations comes out with something to counter the US technology? No big deal, that t-50 is an attempt at parity with US military technology. I have a feeling Russia gained more than the Indians, India is far more sophisticated than people give them credit for and could have made this jet on its own. I'm pretty confident the US has another game-changing piece of technology in the works, so back to that hamster wheel! It will be catch up time again soon.
Agreed...thrusters are the giveaway.
It's also worth noting that planes like the F-22, even in the hands of a capable American pilot, are not what makes US air power dominant all by themselves. Coordinated command and control, centered around something like AWACS or the Hawkeye, in combination with team efforts of many people, is what makes for air power dominance.
It's not Maverick and Goose all alone, flipping off the Soviets while flying upside-down and taking photos, that does the trick. That movie was wrong then, and it's even more wrong today.
well Ed in a way you are correct about us having a game changing thing. However that thing was the new stealth blackhawk at about $66 million each. Which is now in the hands of pakistan and china. so back to the drawing board we go
Yeah, it's called the YF-35. Pretty fighter, supposed improvement to the F-22 which is now what....15 year old technology? Oh noes, the bruskies have a Gen 5 fighter, well...we're on Gen 6.
Send in Mitchell Gant!!!
You mean Michael Gant?
Seems like a nice looking plane, but the exposed thrusters and protruding tail take away any sort of real stealth advantage. First-rate modern radar and detection systems pick up F-117s with ease and this profile is way to broad. The exposed thrusters are a dead giveaway. As a former F-4 jock who has had the chance to drive two Soviet/Russian models, they both suffered from shoddy construction, poor electronics, baffling control layout and the never-ending yaw problems that exist even with fly-by-wire. Flew an SU-22 and Mig-21, personally. The Fitter was a nightmare in a turn. Not newer planes, for sure, but they are all hampered. Still would love to fly a Mig-29.
You're a tool, just like the mega-tool above you. It's like you guys got together to script you, "I know so much about planes, I flew planes, did I mention I know so much about planes?" Tool
My family used to spend summers at a lake with a former naval aviator, now long since retired from Northwest Orient. You don't sound like one, and I'm pretty sure the real veterans don't like pretenders. Nice try.
You can build a billion dollar each plane. It still can be shot down with a $2000 missile by a pilot in a 30million dollar F-16. Why waste the money when your people have no running water and no electricity.
Oh thats right only thing that matters is the phone lines they lose those and 1/2 the jobs in india are gone overnight. No more India call center. lol
You really think a Pakistani flying a F-16 can't be dominated by a plane like this in the hands of a capable Indian pilot?
The AIM-120 costs between 300,000 and 400,000 bucks, depending on the model. ATM, it'd be the most likely fox candidate. Where'd you ever get the idea that missiles only cost a few thou?
JC is also a "Fact Tool", missiles are really expensive, they cost at least elevenity billion dollars.
If you aren't using facts, then you're full of BS, and you shouldn't be posting in the forum at all. Get get emptied, toolbag.
Bad imagination...!
@JC. I don't know JC, I think Toolbag is right. I read somewhere in a book once that missiles are way more than $300,000. In fact, some missiles are said to cost a trillion dollars. Last year I almost bought an AIM-whatever for $10 in a Chinese takeout restaurant in Brooklyn. Toolbag is right, you are a tool. Get a sense of humor!
Kick ass fighter. Good job India and Russia. F-22 is a piece of junk. Its thrust vectoring was an afterthought and only in vertical plane. Sukhoi's have had thrust vectoring in all directions. Oh and "pssst" .... keep telling yourself cold war is over. Idiots!!
Please see above comment from me, you're also in this crowd. Tool. 'Vector thrust in six dimensions, and that piece of crap F-22 because I am the best fighter pilot in the world...."
Tonight we gonna party like it's nineteen eighty-five...
Umm thrust vectoring only helps in a dogfight. In this day and age everything is done beyond visual range making thrust vectoring pretty darn useless.
nice jet i wish we could have the exact same thing
Only game changing plan we have to stop this fighter is to prevent gay-marriage...LOL While we sit and argue about useless crap everybody else is kicking ass. This damn country does not deserve engineering jobs. Service oriented bed-pan cleaning jobs are the only kind of jobs we Americans deserve. Because that is all we are good for. Our heroes are hollywood celebrities while their celebrities include Bill Gates and other Americans who changed the freakin world. Yet these people are mocked in the US while Britney Spears is celebrated. GOOD JOB INDIA and RUSSIA!!! YOU DESERVE IT!!!
Where the hell have those Russians been? Don't they know there's a recession on? We had to scrap our top of the line fighter, so how come they get to just go ahead and build a super one of their own? Oh......over there the rich aren't running everything. I forgot.
Now I have to hear Michelle Bachman quotes for the next 8 years. I don't like her either, but all you people think you're perfect. Look in the mirror. Lol I bet she has more money than all of you put together. I'd hit it too. 😉
Me and Elvis would hit that at 30,000 miles!! She's on my wife's "exception list" right at no.2 under Sarah Palin tied with Jennifer Annisten
Who cares if she has more money. What an absurd response to even mention her in an article about military aircraft.
