Sitter charged after taking baby on ride in back of pickup

A Florida babysitter was charged with child neglect after taking a baby in his stroller for a ride the bed of  a pickup.

According to 911 calls, several people contacted Daytona Beach police Wednesday when they saw the stroller in the back of the truck.

"It's not something you see every day," Daytona Beach police Chief Mike Chitwood told CNN affiliate WESH. "I hope they revoke her babysitting license for that. Would you want her watching your kid?"

The babysitter, Keyona Davis, 23, said in a court appearance Thursday that she had a firm grip on the stroller and that she did not realize her actions constituted neglect.

Davis' public defender had argued that the charge of child neglect was too harsh, as the baby was unharmed.

"It's only if the pickup crashes, the child will be injured or hurt," a public defender said in court.

Davis replied, "Exactly!"

Davis said she didn't realize that police would consider what she did as "negligent."

"It's not like they give you a handbook or anything," she said.

Davis was released from jail on her own recognizance. Police are still investigating the driver of the truck and the baby's mother.

There just isn't any remedy for stupid. What's amazing to me is that whoever was driving the pickup truck is just as stupid as she is. I used the word is because she's still arguing her case.

I think she first needs an IQ test, she is probably very uneducated I would presume.

What would lead you to "presume" that? Wait – don't answer – I know!

Ooh, Kevin, don't go there. Anybody who takes a baby in a stroller for a ride in the back of a pick-up truck would be presumed to be stupid, uneducated or both.

Only if the truck crashed would the baby get hurt? How about when she lost grip of the stroller through the tiny back window and the baby went flying out the back? I know there are at least 2 seats in a truck (as would any other person) and they make baby car seats for a reason. "I had a firm grip..."...Please...

She was sitting in the back with the stroller...not inside the truck.

see the film . she was riding in the back – not holding the stroller through a window, The report states that she "allowed" the baby to ride in the back of the truck. She should have told the baby No – and held her ground!

Another rocket scientist in an over qualified over paid position. Perhaps she might want to apply at a local zoo looking after endangered species.

That was a stupid comment. I work in a zoo and we take very good care of our animals here, including endangered species. By the way if it wasn't for zoos taking care of these endangered species they would become non-exsistent in the wild. We have special breeding programs to help animals that are endangered. We have excellent zookeepers that are very well educated. In fact, probably more educated than you. Most keepers have a masters or doctorate degree and have at least a BS degree in their field. So retard, we are not as stupid as this woman. Please educate yourself before you comment on something you know nothing about.

It's called a seat belt law and it is in a handbook. Unfortunately it is a common misconception that all people have good common sense.

If this babysitter(?) needs a handbook to tell them it's NOT OK to transport a baby, in a stroller?!?, in the back of a truck, then they need their parent card revoked permanently!! Immediately!! Indefinitely!! The parent (?) also needs to be charged with neglect, because there's no way you could convince me the parent(?) didn't know this "sitter" was a french fry short of a Happy Meal.

WOW... what a dumb@$$... seriously, do you really need a handbook for something that should be common sense? Speaking of common sense what in the heck was the mother doing letting someone like that near her child? Geeze... I bet the parent is just as bad as the sitter.
