Tentative Middle East cease-fire seems to be holding

A tentative cease-fire between the different militant factions in Gaza and Israel seemed to be holding on Monday.

A Hamas official said Sunday that the different factions had agreed to join a truce which, according to them, went into effect on Sunday at 9 p.m. local time. The Popular Resistance Committee, which refused to join the cease-fire Sunday, said in a news conference on Monday that "they have agreed to a temporary cease-fire for the sake of our people".

Since 9 p.m. hours on Sunday around 14 rockets were fired from Gaza into Israel, the last one landing at 8 a.m., according to the Israel Defense Forces. As of 8 a.m. local time the Israeli military reports no rockets .

The last Israeli airstrike in Gaza was on Sunday night when the IDF targeted a rocket launching device.

    Holding?
How long can you hold a black skillet right out of the oven in your bare hand?

Does anyone see a contradiction between the three statements above? Either the cease fire DOES NOT "seem to be holding" or it DID NOT "went into effect at 9 p. m. or (if BOTH these events happened) the "14 rockets fired from Gaza since 9 p. m." DID NOT happen...

They didnt care about or respect a cease-fire until now, so why should this time be any different? They probably did temporarily run out of rockets, but dont expect them to stop firing them.

    @ CNN Lies
This was the first attack in years by a militant group against IDF in years. So the truce did work.

What is intriguing is that just when the far right govt of Netanyahu was threatened by massive social unrest clamoring for change and daily protests against his policies. And it appeared that there was no way out for him but divert billions from his military to Israelis welfare, a small relatively unknown militant group gains access to Sinai desert and kills six Israeli soldier.
Lo & behold the thug Netanyahu is thrown a life line . All else fades away, protestors vanish from their camps & far right ideologues and military is back on TV screens. Its war time again in Israel. Billions more needed for the military , forget social reforms.
The proposed Palestinian Authority's approach to the UN in September for recognition could be in jeopardy also.

Intriguing. Whatever deities he prays to, answered him real quick.

I hope that YOU'll be as quick to answer the following question: How did Netanyahu manage to conspire with the unknown as well as well known Palestinian militant groups including Hamas against the Palestinians and the "proposed Palestinian Authority approach to the UN in September? He must be pretty persuasive, don't you agree?

Hardly... You've forgot THOUSANDS of Palestinian terrorist attacks against CIVILIANS... So the "truce" was and is non-existent.

What cease fire? CNN again you drop the ball by not stating the CAUSE of this recent warfare, THE TERRORISTS WHO MURDERED 8 ISRAELI CIVILIANS AND 1 SOLDIER. Hamas and these Arab invaders deserve no mercy, these "Philistines" should be carpet bombed and expelled from Judah, Samaria and Gaza.

The only reason there is any kind of cease fire right now is probably due to the fact that Hamas has run out of missles again. Have you ever noticed that in the beginning they will fire missle after missle after missle, and all of a sudden there will be a very long lull in those types of attacks. It's kind of like a fireworks show in reverse. You know, like having the grand finale at the beginning of the display.

    @ Thinker 23

I didn't put anyconspiracy theory forward. You did. Read my post. I just said that Netanyahus prayers were answered & his govt is safe. Intriguing indeed.
As for 'thousands' of palestinians attacks , pl be informed before you post. According to the UN, since 2009 only one Israeli was killed by militants attacks until now. Since Sept 29,2000 total of Palestinians killed by IDF number 6'430 the children dead are 1'452. The number of Israelis killed during the same period are 1084 & children 124..

    @ bobcat2u
    What missiles man ?
They are unguided home made rockets which killed only one Israeli since 2009.The six Israeli soldiers killed in recent attacks in Sinai desert were attack by a relatively unknown small group, they died in a in a shoot out, not by these rockets.

We wouldn't be splitting hairs now would we ? Any kind of flying object can be reffered to as a missle when it is used as a weapon. Guided or unguided it's still a missle. Look up the definition.

Lies are rarely a good way to promote your point especially when they contradict your own claims. How come "only one Israeli was killed by militants attack until now" if "six Israeli soldiers were killed in recent attacks in Sinai"??? Further, while 6 Israelis were murdered by terrorists in 2009, 10 in 2010 and 16 in 2011 (and NOT "one" as you've falsely claimed) not every terrorist attack ends in a fatality but each one is recorded. Get a clue!

I don't know whether you folks even care to read the news or research on your own before commenting or if you wre even American.
We Americans have always been raised ( at least my generation) to play fair. To know the truth and speak up.
You wouldn't know that right now there are some very brave Americans risking their lives along with those from European countries , to get humanitarian aid to Gaza strangled by everlasting economic blockade by Israel.
Israelis have killed Americans before with impunity for standing up on the side of truth & justice. Rachel Corrie , remember March 2003 bull dozed alive by IDF? Or the American teenager brutally assasinated by Israeli commandos on the Peace Flotilla in june 2010.
Israeli response to the International outcry ( not ours strangely) was 'We can kill anyone anywhere".
You wouldn't even know about USS Liberty.

Rachel Corrie COMMITTED SUICIDE by standing in front of a working bulldozer where the driver could not possibly see her... and I would LOVE to know from you about the possible reasons Israel would be willing to DELIBERATELY attack USS Liberty.

Sure she committed suicide. Even IDF didn't come up with that absurd explanation.
USS Liberty was deliberately attacked & 34 US sailors were killed and scores injured. To make the point " we can kill anyone anywhere'.
    @ bobcat 2u
thanks for refreshing my vocabulary. Even a stone can be a missile. But of course in the context of what we are talking about your reference to missiles was unmistakable and needed to be corrected.

How would you call actions of a person standing in front of a working bulldozer where the driver can not possibly see her if NOT a suicide? I'm all ears... and I'm still waiting for you to explain the possible reasons Israel would be willing to DELIBERATELY attack USS Liberty.

One more reference to the unguided projectile discussion. If you will remember correctly during the first Gulf war, Saddams weapon of choice was the scud MISSLE, which just happened to be an unguided weapon system. Tomatoes –Tomahtoes

About Rachel Corrie. Wish you could say that to her family, who is still trying to get some justice for her murder at the hands of Israeli defence Forces.
    God give them strength.
