Officials: Nuclear plant's fuel storage casks moved by Virginia quake

Twenty-five of 27 spent fuel storage casks at a Virginia nuclear plant were shifted between 1 and 4 inches during last week's 5.8-magnitude earthquake, officials said Thursday.

The cylinders, each 16 feet tall and weighing 115 tons, were not damaged, and no radiation was released, said Rich Zuercher, spokesman for Dominion Virginia Power, which owns the North Anna Power Station.

    I can only imagine
    What it will be like
    When I walk
    By your side

    I can only imagine
    What my eyes will see
    When your face
    Is before me
    I can only imagine

Surrounded by Your glory, what will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all
    I can only imagine

    I can only imagine
    When that day comes
    And I find myself
    Standing in the Son

    I can only imagine
    When all I will do
    Is forever
    Forever worship You
    I can only imagine

That's 230,000 pounds(about 50 autos) apiece, Bimbo. How much energy is needed to move that weight?
Which construction components of the nuclear plant can not withstand that much force?

I would hope that these plants would have been built taking earthquakes into consideration.

Spent rod? In your basement? I've got one of those, but it's only four inches. Some like 'em that wide though. I remember the first time I ever used it for anything other than going pee-pee. I was only 9 yrs. old when I lost my virginity. Huh? Oh. You meant with a partner. nm

I can understand people's fears when it comes to things they don't know. This plant operated as it should, including venting steam to the atmosphere, and there was never a threat to the public.
