7.1 quake strikes off Alaska

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 struck Friday off the coast of Alaska, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was 6.2 miles deep - a relatively shallow temblor capable of causing damage.

The epicenter was in the Aleutian Islands, about 120 miles from Atka, Alaska.

The quake prompted a tsunami warning for coastal areas of Alaska, from Unimak Pass, Alaska to Amchitka Pass, Alaska, the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the sparsely populated area near the epicenter.

Well, seriously Robbie, do you think there are helicopters hovering over the Russian side of Alaska waiting for Eatrhquakes to report on? Doug.

Robbie, it did not occur 2 hours ago. It occurred less than an hour ago. There's not much to report. There are less than 100 people total out in that area.

Using Bachmann's reasoning, the earthquake in Alaska must be a punishment from God for Sarah Palin. I love religion! You can interpret anything anyway you want and nobody can prove your right or wrong. Also, regardless of your interpretation, you are guaranteed to always have a following. Plus it is all tax exempt! Doesn't get any better than that.

The amazing thing about religion is that it is based on a faith that no living being has witnessed. Did you ever wonder who,or what made the Grand Canyon, the Tetons, or a rainbow? You may think God does not exist and that the Bible is a novel, but did you read that divers have discovered the remains of chariots at the bottom of the Red Sea? Have you heard the story of Moses and the Red Sea? Think! Just think.

This is nothing what is yet to come, USA has committed too many evils to appease the dirty jew. USA will be decimated by God there will be catastrophic earthquakes and hurricanes which will destroy thousands of your nuclear plants until usa becomes radioactive dump and leveled with earth, and jew's power will be destroyed for all times. israel and jews around the world will face retribution like never seen before for all their evils, and will be vanquished from their current state of security into terrible torment, until end days. and more. God has a plan

Hey Averse. You should get off the shrooms and switch to decaf. Unless of course you actually want to sound like a woefully uninformed, uneducated imbecile.

That doesn't do much for your argument, but your call!

if you are a doctor, you should be well educated in what kinds of psychological issues would cause someone to post a response like the one you posted....small minded, weak individual with low self esteem....

    • I needed a laugh

Geez I was reading this article because I used to live in Alaska and have friends still there. I did not expect to be entertained too! Averse, your absolutely biggoted stereotyping of so many different things (religion, people) made me laugh as I am reminded that the world is made up of a wide variety of diverse people. Everyone has a voice, but sometimes maybe it is best kept to ourselves. I cannot tell if you are serious, so I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are joking. Good stuff. Mindless drivel ... but very funny. And yes God or whatever anyone wants to refer to by name, that which controls the chaos that is our existence does have a plan ... and neither you or anyone here knows what it is.

That's funny because if I recall the reading of my bible, the hebrews are jews, and the CHOSEN children of God.

PUNISH, PUNISH, DESTROY, KILL, SLAY! I thought the god thing was benevolent, loving, and forgiving? Why must he hate the Jewish people so much?

If you have an iphone/ipad etc, you can download a free app called Quakeviz that will show you all earthquakes that occur worldwide in real-time. It will show you that large quakes are occurring constantly. The area near San Juan island called Vanuatu is one of the most active with quakes in the 5-6 range occurring every day.
