7.1 quake strikes off Alaska

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 struck Friday off the coast of Alaska, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was 6.2 miles deep - a relatively shallow temblor capable of causing damage.

The epicenter was in the Aleutian Islands, about 120 miles from Atka, Alaska.

The quake prompted a tsunami warning for coastal areas of Alaska, from Unimak Pass, Alaska to Amchitka Pass, Alaska, the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the sparsely populated area near the epicenter.

      They were written over two-hundred thousand years ago? I thought you people preached that the world was only 6000 years old. Hopefully this means that you've finally come to your senses.       Praise Geezus it's a miracle! The predictions of an earthquake occurring in a remote location in the world, that caused no damage and little scare was foretold in writing before the written word existed! Hallelujah!

    And I thought this item was a simple 5 paragraph story about an Alaskan earthquake with a bit of steam , warning of potential damages.
    Reading other comments, you'd think it was cannon fodder for the 2012 heretics or a nothing event for a bored armchair seismologist.

    I needed a laugh, having a mysterious force play games with the earth isnt my idea of religion. Food shortages, climate change, natural disasters, earthquakes are natural phenomenon. The reason for these events is based in science and in some cases the earth's response to our neglect of the planet; not in a spiritual force's need to show usnthe end of the world is near.
