7.1 quake strikes off Alaska

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.1 struck Friday off the coast of Alaska, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake was 6.2 miles deep - a relatively shallow temblor capable of causing damage.

The epicenter was in the Aleutian Islands, about 120 miles from Atka, Alaska.

The quake prompted a tsunami warning for coastal areas of Alaska, from Unimak Pass, Alaska to Amchitka Pass, Alaska, the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries in the sparsely populated area near the epicenter.

Our Sun coronal mass ejections, are large surge of particles from the Sun, often comes with a flare., flares travel reach and impact our Earth's magnetosphere, People started associating flares on the Sun with the changes in the magnetic field being measured by the magnetometers years ago, thence earthquakes are caused by this energy which transferred to our tectonic plates produces earthquakes, our Sun is mutating resulting in all sorts of weather related events.

It's only a natural disaster when something we built or own is destroyed by nature. If we aren't involved, it's just natural occurrences. We turn natural occurrences into disasters by being there.

im with you on that....some people are under the impression that this is "god's" doing or the earth is out to get us or something. this is just what our planet does. we are just in the way. its sad when people lose their lives and homes, but its part of living on earth.

You are correct-very few people live there so why worry about this earthquake, just as the storms that swirl in the Gulf are never reported on-the last two have covered the majority of the state, yet it is Lee and Irene that get coverage.
