Katia becomes hurricane again

The storm named Katia has become a hurricane again in the Atlantic, the National Hurricane Center said Friday.

It had briefly weakened into a tropical storm but has since regained strength, the Center said.

As of 11 a.m. ET, Katia was roughly 700 miles east of the northern Leeward Islands. Its maximum sustained winds were 75 mph - near the minimum level required to be classified as a hurricane.

Katia is continuing to move in a west-northwest direction at about 14 mph.  It is expected to strengthen over the weekend, the Center said.

Potentially dangerous swells created by Katia are expected to begin affecting the Caribbean by late Friday, the Center noted.

All I can say people is pay attention. Not fear mongering, but this been a very unusual year for storms and other natural disasters. Down here on the gulf coast we are preparing for a very heavy and extended rain situation. They are talking 10-15 " and some areas up to 20 ". It all really depends on the speed of the storm, which is presently moving about 1 mph. This is not a good scenario. It looks like I might get to practice my back stroke.

    Hi, bobcat2u.
    Hi, Ruffie.

That people should take heed goes without saying; then we'll get people who will try to minimize it by saying "hey, it's only a Category 1.
To me, that's like saying "hey, why should I take shelter from the tornado? It's only an F1."
I know they're two different things; but the sentiment is the same:
    Heed the warnings, people!

I truly hope TX and AZ gets some rain soon.
    OK also!

    Hi banasy !
    Hi RUFFNUTT !

I truly wish this system would head to Texas also. My daughter and her family live over there and they so desperately need the rain. The fires that Texas have been plagued with are in their area now and it's not looking good.

Hey RUFFNUTT. How about using some of your mystical powers and throw some mombo jombo on that storm and send it where it's needed most. Maybe you could send a couple of those elves. I can live without the cookies for a spell. lol

Ocean levels are rising. Regardless of whether you agree the cause is global warming or not, they are rising. Even in conservative Newport Beach, CA (a place where government does not acknowledge that global warming is caused by humans) they have started putting a plan in to motion to raise the sea walls and start preparing for rising oceans.

@office drone: Oh, it's not *caused* by humans. But we don't help none.

From time to time, there are records of ice ages, etc. There's nothing we could do to stop that.

And anyone who's played civilization knows the more people and nuclear explosions, the more global warming.

There are all sort of events taking place all over the globe at this time, some human made–others not; over in the Arab world–the arab uprising, in Africa–famina in some sections, in the USA–hurricane in some sections, over here in the tropics–its fun in the sun on the beaches! But wherever we happen to be at this time–may all please stay safe, and remember–it should always be "one love"
