This could be the plot for a movie, "Fast and Furious Canada," or maybe "Fast and Furious, the Young and the Rich."
Police in British Columbia say they impounded $2 million worth of high-end vehicles this week after witnesses reported the 13 cars racing on a metro Vancouver highway at speeds of 125 mph (200 kph).
The high-end race cars included a Ferrari, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, an Audi, an Aston Martin, Nissans and a Mercedes, according to a Royal Canadian Mounted Police press release.
Two of the racers would run side-by-side to block other traffic going in their direction on the highway while the others cars would take off in a race, witnesses told the RCMP.
"These drivers seemed to be looking for attention. Well, they definitely got the attention of police," Cpl. Holly Marks, spokesperson for the Lower Mainland District Regional Police Service, said in the press release.
What the racers, who police said are all under age 21, won't get is harsh punishment.
"Each driver will be charged with Driving without Reasonable Consideration and receive a violation ticket with a specified penalty of $196. Additionally, these drivers will be responsible for all associated towing and storage charges," according to the RCMP press release.
That's because police didn't actually catch them in the act and acted only on witness accounts. They weren't caught on radar, video or seen by a police officer, Superintendent Norm Gaumont, RCMP officer in charge of traffic enforcement for the Lower Mainland, told the Surrey Now newspaper.
"I know there's a lot of disappointment, wondering why we only charged them with an offence of $196. They fact of the matter is, we have to look at all the evidence we have and what we're able to prove," Surrey Now quoted Gaumont as saying. "That's why we've charged them with driving without due consideration for the public."
If police were able to charge the 13 drivers with more severe offenses, they could have faced forfeiture of their vehicles, according to a Vancouver Sun report.
The RCMP said most of the drivers were operating their vehicles on "N" class licenses, which means they had not yet attained full driving privileges. Only one of the drivers was the registered owner of the car they were driving, Gaumont told Surrey Now.
The drivers included 12 men and one woman, according to Surrey Now. Gaumont told the paper they were on their way to have a meal when they decided to race.
According to the Sun, the vehicles were:
"Their maserati did one eighty five... they lost their cars and, now they don't drive...."
Aaaahhhh! Here we see the youngsters out having a good time. Life hasn't beaten their azzez down like the rest of us!
And it won't happen ever, when they got money in the bank. Rich parents means a set life. They will just live off of interest from their offshore banks. Put a couple of milli in a bank that give 17% interest rate and you don't have to work for the rest of your life.
where can we try it sometime? People are trying to become rich but that doesn't mean that you become rich.
These Chinese kids are neither uneducated or poor. They are however ugly as hell. I'm talking Mad magazine ugly, with teeth poppin out and such. I have seen some of these fools with fat wallets and they are your typical pimple ridden, dragon ball hair style, money to burn Chinese. Thats not to say that all Chinese are ugly or rich; however, in the area of Richmond, a lot of them are. Before anyone calls me racist, I live in Richmond and I love Chinese people. I have been to China and have lived in Hong Kong for about 10 years.......Its just hard to get along with the Chinese on the roads, especially when they don't speak English....or open their eyes when they drive......
Oppsss...did i just ran you over. Sorry couldn't see cuz I was goin TOO FAST with tunnel vision. haha
They were not speeding if that is what you call it. I was there and they were trying to catch me, but could not. I was in my Bugatti Veyron and would go up against any of those kids but would prefer doing it on the autobahn. I had a youtube post with the Bugatti and it will move at 1001 hp.. color me gone............................
Seems like a lot of upset "have nots" making these stupid ASSumptions about the kids in the article. How does xenophobic vitriol always seem to find its place on here when the subject matter had nothing to do it in the first place? Why are some of you individuals upset about individuals having the means to purchase high end vehicles, attain quality education that you can't? Learn to play your position and stop complaining and making stupid baseless ASSumptions or focus more on the reality TV shows that on the surface seem to have done you a world of good given the fact that your misplaced hateful rhetoric clearly conveys that at best your reasoning and reading level is either severely impaired by your hate or on a 3rd grade level at best. The ordinal number was included in case any of you idiots had a hard time reading comprehending the word "third." Go read a book or something or get your cellulite riddled butts in the gym especially since over 1/3 of our country's population is obese. For you hateful sloven and grossly obese individuals that means at least 1 out of 3 of you that posted something negative are FAT!
These irresponsible teens will face the consequences of their actions regardless of their race and social status. Now, what really puzzles me is this social cauldron generated by this incident. As one of the many middle class Asian Canadian who strives to build our community with respect, value and integrity, I feel compelled to say that we are often being categorized and transformed into this negative stereotypical image of snotty, unintelligent and spoiled brat. Not all Asians are bloated who ignores the law. I just hope that people view these matters without any racial hatred because everything we say and do ultimately alters the situation. We can choose to aggravate the situation with biased opinions, or we can view the situation with objectivity.
Hardly anyone actually discriminates againsts Asians in Canada. We dislike anyone who is handed things they never worked a day to earn.

So it's good to hate fat people as well as racists?
Journalism is so pitiful that even CNN recognized the headline was misleading and changed it. It used to read Cops SEIZE 2 million worth of cars.
Nissan is the worst cars Ive every owned. I bought 2 in my lifetime and both were lemons ..... between the two of them they were repaired over 70 times to include multiple computer systems, brake systems, etc. Thank god for lemon laws, else i would be stuck with Nissan pile of 'junk'.
The GTR is not a Sentra.... get a clue.
1994 and 1995 are good years just took mine out tonight and within bout a 30 secs i was over 120 all i got right now is cold air and open end muffler.
I got that exact same freaking $196 ticket for going 75 in a 60 zone the other day!! What the hell??
Ticketed on heresay – Bovine Feces
2012 Nissan GT-R is the fastest car here. 0-60 mph in 2.9 sec. Best NĂĽrburgring lap time.
The GTR is definitely a nice ride. However, a top speed of only 200 mph keeps it out of the super car category. On the other hand, the price is right. My choice, not listed, would be the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo. At over $500,000, it's a bit spendy, but not as bad as the Gallardo. As far as I know, the ugly duckling Veyron still rules. He who has the most money wins.
F**ckin Awesome! What recession?
It's not Asians that are the cause, it's simply young males. I don't care how poor, or rich you are...you give a young male access to a high performance vehicle...beit, car or sportbike...that guy is going to be bumping that RPM off the tach...
Funny how in only a few years, I know would much prefer a Jaguar E class than any of these cars here....even though that 599 Ferrari is a nice car.
Hell, I can't even afford to look at a Lamborghini. It would be a blast to drive one though. My car fantasy is to drive a Saleen S7 TT Comp. It will run with anything except maybe the Veyron.
