Taliban abducted young people, officials believe

Authorities in Pakistan's tribal region believe the Taliban have abducted around 30 young people on an outing there.

Islam Zeb, a senior administrator in Bajaur Agency, told CNN on Friday the people were between the ages of 10 and 20 and elders were meeting to discuss the recovery of the children.

Zeb said the youth were walking to a picnic spot along a river to mark the end of the Muslim holiday of Ramadan.

    You are exactly right. People shouldnt eat other people. That is bad. Like on a scarry movie. We need to teach everyone to eat apples and bread and vegetables. Not people. That is just gross.

    OK, I have to admit some of the comedyjokes here are pretty funny & we all need a little comedic relief, even if it's dark humor! The fact is a) the Taliban are abducting kids to "recruit" into fighters & probably have been for years, b) kids go missing all over the world, by disgruntled divorced spouses, pedophiles, murderers & s.e.ex traders! That's something we must discuss & find ways to stop!! Thanks, Philip for your thoughtful post!!

    Although its apples and oranges (the children abducted in Pakistan vs. American kids ) I agree with you; the media (and stupid parents) hypers_ualise little kids then wonder why the pervs prey on them. I think the motives are different but equally as damaging .

    Hay Raven, furnace...This child issue I know all too well from personal experience. For decades Americans have been getting-away with abuseive treatment of children. Child-stalkers are as thick as flies in this country, and that's just the ones we have registered. I take it personal when peeps laugh at it. A molested child is scarred for life, suffering from depression for the rest of their lives. Proof of how widespread this problem is(besides crime stats) the fact that so many of US are on antidepressants. I've dealt with my personal issues thru drug-free therapy...if I were drugged, this would not upset me so much, explaining why so many think it's no big deal...they 're obviously drugged.

    Why are we surprised that the Taliban would do this?
    I'm not.
    I hope that they are returned safely, but they will probably be turned into the Taliban's next suicide bombers...whether they "believe" in the cause or not.

    Why are we surprised that so many children are abducted/sodomized by Americans? I'm not. I hope they are returned safely.. But they will probably become child abusers themselves, or become "holy" men.

    You focus on the fmr. government of Afghanistan where I focus on our own children being abducted by the 10s of thousands by Americans. I see the topic as children being abducted where you see it as an excuse to blame the Taliban. Hence our difficulties.

    @philip: I empathize with you. I was also (ahem) touched by an older cousin. After he got caught with ANOTHER cousin my aunt had him committed to a (ahem)special place. For 2 WEEKS. Where he complained that they wouldnt fix his teeth and buy him glasses. I havent spoken to my mother in 6 years and my family in longer so i dont know what hes up to now but last I heard he had been arrested for trying to do it to his (ahem )girlfriend when she was lyin in a coma near death in the hospital. I know it sounds like a story but its true .my point is: there is absolutely NO CURE OR TREATMENT for these kind of people.. and they progressively get worse.

    @Philip:
    I was commenting on the article.
    You have no idea what I focus on, so attempting to make me look shallow failed completely, because my friends and family know better.
    Please cease your diatribes against me.

    Philip: I understand your compunction to educate people but why are you so adversarial? People listen. They do. Not everything is you vs.the world. and NO ONE has the market cornered on misery. Maybe you could talk TO us instead of AT us? People can surprise you with kindness and compassion. If you let them.
