Officials: English tourist kidnapped by Somali pirates

An English tourist kidnapped from a remote Kenyan resort is being held by Somali pirates in a remote corner of the lawless country, according to experts and security analysts in Nairobi.

"Gangs from Southern Somalia took her up the coast and then moved her several times," said Andrew Mwangura, a piracy expert and maritime editor of Somalia Report, an independent online publication.

Judith Tebbutt was abducted by armed men from a remote safari lodge near to the Somali border earlier this month. Her husband, David Tebbutt, was killed in the attack when he resisted, according to Kenyan police.

So it may bring a little relief to British officials that Somali pirates are now being eaten by Jaws.

Once the civilized nations of the world have finally had enough of these dirtbags they will make a force made up of united countries, much like the un is suppose to do. Go in and just clean house of these renegades. They actually think they are just going to someday sit up and say ok we won't do this stuff anymore ?

It's unfair to slam the entire country of Kenya because of this one incident. Kenya had a million tourists last year and close to that number in 2009 and the preceding years – it is generally considered safe. Like anyplace though, you have to be vigilant and stay away from rough areas. This incident has to do with the resort's proximity to the Somali border. A couple of British tourists were shot dead in Miami earlier this year – that shouldn't reflect on the whole state much less the country. That said, the Kenyan government is going to have to safeguard that area so that these pirates aren't emboldened into making excursions further south down the coast.

In fact, this very same couple had previously been to Kenya and loved the country. It's unfortunate that this time around, they went to such a remote place close to Somalia.

Re misspelling: No, just better manual dexterity.

Re going to Africa: I'd love to go there sometime in my life, but a few random psychos (pirates, terrorists, etc) just have to ruin it for everyone else. I was in Egypt and Israel in the early 90s, but I wouldn't go now.
