Two new narco subs found in Colombia

Authorities in Colombia have confiscated two narco subs, submersibles designed to smuggle cocaine, since Friday, according to news reports.

A vessel found on the country's Pacific coast on Friday could carry up to 10 tons of cocaine and was outfitted with a GPS navigation system, according to a report from

On Monday, authorities said they found a smaller but more sophisticated submarine hidden in a wooden shack in dense coastal jungle north of where the first sub was found Friday, according to a report from the BBC.

The second sub, named The Black Pearl, was made of steel and fiberglass and could carry four tons of cocaine, the BBC report said. It could stay submerged for 10 days with a crew of five and had radar, navigation and communication systems that made it worth $2 million, the report said.

Both vessels were built under the orders of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group, which finances its operations with cocaine sales, according to the reports.

In February, Colombian authorities captures a 100-foot-long narco sub capable of traveling to Mexico at depths of up to 30 feet.

If we can find and track like a rare turtle in the ocean with the latest technology, how in the hell does fartc think they can get a 30ft sub to the US?

The rare turtle would have been tagged with a homing device. Do you see anything in the story that would even suggest that the drug traffickers provided the DEA the same?

If the sub has a GPS, then it can be tracked by the Feds via satellite interception. Turtles, subs, same thing. FARC is smarter than the FBI.

A very ignorant comment based on nothing but your supposition and stupidy, I'm 66, live in the USA and have never taken an illegal drug. When people make off the cuff commets like your brilliant comment above it just shows your stupidity not the person you are meaning to comment about.

I think 300,000,000 is a little, ahem, high. That would mean every citizen of this country is addicted to drugs. i agree it's supply and demand, but it probably closer to a million or 2 cocaine users.

You are a dumb@55...the US population (from census, not including all those damn illegals) is 307,000,000. Now crawl back in your hole, you troll.

"A very ignorant comment based on nothing but your supposition and stupidy", are you serious! Are you that naive that you don't know the US is the biggest consumer of drugs or are you just "ignorant and stupid".

This is *NOT* a stupid comment. The U.S. buys all of these drugs, and sells weapons to Mexico then we stick our heads in the sand and act like we have nothing whatsoever to do with the problem.

Apparently you are on drugs. But not all of the 300 million Americans are on drugs. I have never tried a drug in my life. I'm 48. You need mental help and fast.

According to parrot everyone in the US is addicted to drugs and does them 24/7

I say we nuke Bolivia and Columbia and wipe out the supply chain.

How....short-sighted. Are you going to nuke Mexico when they start supplying? What about Nevada? Texas?
The 'War on Drugs' is UNWINNABLE. The epic failure of the DEA is on constant display, yet the vast majority of Americans seem unable to grasp the utter failure it is.
      How blind are you?!

Where do you think the drugs go after landing in Mexico? Guy might be wrong on his numbers but it doesn't really change the fact that these subs and cartel operations are bought and paid for by your neighbors.

Essentially you could say the same about the users since they'll look for supply from somewhere else and that would not bode well for most of our cities here in the U.S.

Yeah man! nuke everybody man! lol... you mental midget...people like you are the reason EVERY other country in the world hates the U.S. ....then what? nuke the next country that the millions of addicts will try to get their drugs from? let's put you on the front line, surely it will be just as productive as the current war

First of all CNN. It's a semi submersible not a submarine. A submarine can go under water completely. This vessel cannot in fact it is more like a low profile vessel were only the portion directly above the hull is above water.

if you read another article,, the U.S. has the highest cocaine use in the world with 16% of the population saying they have used it at some point.
It is a simple case of supply and demand. One will always pull the other. Other solutions should be looked at.

John Lennon once said Happiness is a Warm Gun... Too bad he was talking about Heroin at the time.

I'm sure the Beatles wouldn't have minded a Columbian sub showing up in Liverpool back in the sixties.

Since we don't want criminals and citizens having drugs, let's make them illegal. That will stop everyone from having them. Remeber, people don't kill people, drugs kill people... oh wait.. wrong problem...
