'Zeta Killers' say they target Mexican drug cartel

A video purporting to be from a vigilante group whose goal is the eradication of the Zetas cartel from the state of Veracruz, Mexico, has surfaced on the Internet, but its credibility remains unproven.

Five masked men dressed in black appear on the video, sitting behind a long table. The spokesman explains that they are a group called the "Mata Zetas," or Zeta Killers. They describe themselves as an "extermination" force that works as the armed front "of the people and for the people."

The speaker says that the group's only goal is to kill members of the Zetas, a ruthless cartel whose area of influence includes the eastern state of Veracruz. Members of the Mata Zetas are prohibited from committing crimes such as extortion or kidnappings, according to the video.

The video was released via YouTube days after 35 bodies were found in two trucks during rush hour in the city of Boca del Rio.

I don't understand something. So many Americans, regular citizens as well as in Government complain about illegals coming to the US and taking our jobs, living on our welfare, ETC. Why won't we send troops ( I wouldn't know who else to send) to Mexico and help clean up that country from all the drug cartels, and all the corruption that is going on in Mexico? Clean up the country and help bring back prosperity and a decent non-fearing way of life. That would help with illegal immigration as well as disband the Drug cartels? I don't think the cartels will ever really stop but may slow them down. They only people we would have to fight is the Cartels. What's the difference in what we are doing in Afghanistan? Trying to clean up that country! Its a win win situation!! I know we only do things to benefit our country and this really would!!•MARY•

@mary: turn mexico into afghanistan? No thanks.

I do support annexing mexico. No more illegals, an infrastructure to build – jobs, jobs, jobs...

It's just the getting there... They gotta want it, though, and do this thing like americans. Not like middle easterners/north africans.

Not a bad point Mary, but the Zeta corruption likely goes high into the government of Mexico, and it would be a massive loss of "face" for the Mexican president to need to call in foreign troops. Beyond that, it is basically an insurgency. No uniforms or bases. You could look at a crowd of 100 and not be able to pick out the three Zeta members. I think it would send a strong message and wish it would work, but I don't see it happening.

@Mary please!!! what you suggesting? Cartels drug dealer’s thugs cannot coexist in any society they need to be eradicated and the task force will do just that, cartels will hunted down and shot on site. Same as hunting quails shacked out of the bushes where they hide and terminated.

Agree Prophet. Drug lords arent going to take an honest job at 1% of their drug income. Illegals are one thing. I have NO issue eradicating Zeta drug lords like vermin.

No, I don't think I meant drug Cartels, dealers or thugs should be allowed to continue to screw things up for the rest of us! But look what they are doing to Mexico! Mexican Citizens are fleeing to the US (and most Americans don't want them to!)They want better jobs, homes, not to live in fear and have a decent life. But they can't! No I don't want to turn Mexico into another Afghanistan either. But really what's the difference? Why can't we assist and help Mexico and in return it would help us? I don't even thin it would take that long to clean it up either! When its all over and done with we leave! But if we teach, hire officials and police that will not be corrupted, again that can only help us! What else can we do?

I agree with sending more troops to the border to stop illegal immigration and if the Mexican government asks for it, joint raids on the cartels. However, I do not want us to continue nation building (training police, reforming government, etc) that is up to the Mexican's.

If you just eradicate the american doper the drug cartel would go out of business. All this death, all this horror just so american's can have their drugs and party.

Ah but life is not as simple as you think. These cartels have moved on from drugs to extortion and kidnappings to make their money. They have the guns and money to blow, its all about the power now. Even if you could stop all Americans from doing drugs, which is impossible, the cartels would continue their violence to get their money.

    Mary,

The problem is there is no oil down in Mexico for the US to protect. The only reason we are in Afghanistan is to make sure we have access to oil and to protect our access to oil in that region (Eliminate Threats). I really wouldn't be surprised if they whole Iran assassination plot was just propaganda to provoke other nations (Such as Saudi, UN) to isolate Iran further (For what..... oil!!!) . Mexico, ShMexico, the US doesn't care about other peoples troubles. If they did, they would have been helping the poor people in Africa (Darfur for example), but they have no financial/political interest anywhere else except the middle east. You think they really care about the poor people around the world.... I don't think so. I am with you though, they shouldn't be only concerned with oil, they should be helping people in Mexico, Africa and elsewhere....

the US isn't protecting middle east oil. they are ensuring they get a steady supply. had rockelfeller never funded the women's temperance league, we would not have an oil addiction problem. prior to that boneheaded corporate move for nothing but sheer profit, vehicles ran on either electricity or alcohol that farmers made out of waste products on the farm. gasoline was a by-product of lamp oil (which at the time was the real money maker) processing that was being dumped in the hudson river as waste.

Ignorant Fosters – and I am tired of that libby nonsense. If you really believe that we only protect oil, let me ask you about a few things – and you tell me – with the same apparent wisdom as you used in your statement –
      What about Somalia
      What about Haiti
      What about the Balkans
      What about Grenada
      What about Panama
See what I am getting at? We do plenty of things that have nothing to do with oil. If you need to ignore the facts, feel free. As far as IRAQ goes, OPEC has isolated Iraqi production from being able to impact world prices, and all profits have to stay in Iraq. I realize you are still caught up in the "Bush loves Big Oil" kool-aid fest. But check your facts, Bush was MORE restrictive of big oil than Obama. So you need to update your hatred. Most of us realize by now that is a voice from the past that is 100% inaccurate anymore. Be angry – it is what drives change. But at least have your facts right. If you are using this logic, your argument is inherently 100% flawed.

And as long as I am trying to drag you kicking and screaming into the world of truth and reality-
ACCORDING TO THE UN AS OF LAST YEAR AFGHANISTAN'S OIL PRODUCTION IS ZERO BARRELS A DAY. NONE. THERE IS NO OIL TO PROTECT AS YOU STATE.
The closest you can come is a proposed oil pipeline THROUGH afghanistan to the coast for shipping. But that oil will come from elsewere. But if you think we are there to protect oil, and I can prove there IS NO OIL, I think I'm done discussing this with you. Since you won't admit being wrong, and spread devicive hatred, I'm letting this go.

Seriously, where do you get your information? Mexico has some of the largest untapped oil fields on the North and Central American Continent. Try again. As for not caring about the people of Mexico? Stuff it. I love them. I hope and pray that one day they will get the Peace, and Prosperity they deserve.

  11. obvious one

amusingly the obvious answers never come up. how about legalize the drugs in the first place to remove the criminal element and criminal profits. tax the drugs for social programs, make them available at walgreens and no more drug cartels warring over drug profits. yes i'm sure the cartels would find something else to profit from, but it is a start.

seriuosly, now at 50% most americans believe in the legalization of pot. why not legalize it. then the mexicans have one less source of revenue. we have spent billions trying to stop something that is like a train running down hill. its not gonna happen. legalize it, liscense the farmers, package it, sell it, taxe it. and lets move on. just as with alcohol, we obviously didnt learn anything from prohibition. lets use our brains instead of our beliefs. we have all been taught what our government wants us to learn. i cant find any evidence of pot killing people any where on the internet. but i have seen plenty of real evidence of what alcohol does. lets have an honest educated debate about the effects on people from pot. then let the american peole make the choice.

The murder of two bloggers attributed to Zetas in September 2009 has hit the chronic. The bodies are found accompanied by a warning to blogs and specialized sites in denouncing crimes related to cartels. Now, what about this organization?
