Man, 26, charged in model airplane plot to bomb Pentagon

A 26-year-old Massachusetts man with a physics degree was arrested and charged Wednesday with plotting an attack on the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol with a remote-controlled model aircraft, authorities said.

Rezwan Ferdaus, a U.S. citizen from Ashland, Massachusetts, planned to use model aircraft filled with C-4 plastic explosives, authorities said.

As a result of an undercover FBI investigation, Ferdaus, who has a physics degree from Northeastern University in Boston, was charged with attempting to provide material support and resources to al Qaeda for attacks on U.S. soldiers overseas, authorities said.

His federal public defender couldn't be reached immediately for comment.

A law enforcement official said Ferdaus posed no immediate danger to the public because undercover operatives kept in close contact with him.

"There is no information to indicate he was connected to a foreign terrorist organization. It appears he was radicalized watching videos on the Internet. He was given the opportunity to back down, but he never wavered" from his intention to carry out the attacks, the source said.

If they have the itelligence to stop a toy air plane from causing terrorism, surely the government couldve prevented 9/11. I smell a rat.

When are Americans going to wake up to the fact that Islam is not a peaceful religion?

Funny how white supremacy hate groups and plots (by white militias) are up about 800% since Obama took office, and yet they *never* make front page news. Neither did Aaron Fetto (Google him why don't you, and ask yourself if he were Muslim, would it make the front page? YES!).

False Flags. All these "Muslims are still trying to kill us" scares are simply ways to continue the drum beat of war overseas in MUSLIM lands. This is about MONEY, not religion.

      Wake up people.

This may come to you as a surprise, LEE IN TULSA. Muslims have no Bibles. Their holy book is called The Koran. Time to educate yourself on such matters, since you insist on commenting on them.

People of the United States of America,
OK,we now need to classify Remote Control Model Self Propelled Aircraft as Deadly Weapons just like Hand Guns,
anyone who owns one or wants to buy one will need to be Licensed and need to pass a backround check.....Hah!

Somewhere out there, there is a person with some rudimentary skills, a copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook, and the motivation to do real harm. They can cook up their own homemade C4, rig remote detonators off of RC servo's, and can build those "Super Sized" flying models and use them like a "Poor Man's Smart Bomb" with great effect.

I 1st said this in 1992 when I was a Deputy Sheriff in Northern Mississippi when discussing what we now call "Home Grown Threats" at a law enforcement seminar. I'm just surprised it took this long. Now let's see how long it takes for someone to incorporate a small version of a targeting autopilot using compact shipboard GPS based electronics. Which is something else I discussed.

There's something quite screwy about this story here. If the F.B.I. could find and stop just one wannabe Jihaddist in Massachusetts, then why couldn't they have stooped 9/11? This suggests again that 9/11 was some kind of inside job most likely having the C.I.A. behind it. It must again be noted that 9/11 was a great boon to the Bush Administration giving him the perfect pretext for the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan and the passage of the Patriot Act.

@ George Patton...9/11 was America being caught sitting on our collective ass and not a CIA inside job. The FBI being able to catch one wannabe jihadist nutjob is because of the measures that were put in place after 9/11

People of the United States of America,
Homeland Security should not be surprised at this plot, logically it was always an option for Terrorists.
They could easily spread a BIO-WEAPON using this type of airborne platform. They would do more psychological damge by sending a suicide team into major Mall to shoot and kill hundreds of people. But I am sure DHS knows this already.

@george: the fbi didn't find this guy. Their informants made a reality out of this guys fantasies. They might have been working on this guy for years. And the informants got hundreds of thousands of dollars to do it.

They gave him an r/c plane, some fake c4, and guided him to a place where he may have never gone without them.

They can't prove anything would have happened if they hadn't stepped in. That is why this is entrapment, like all the others.

That is why this is wrong. We can't really stop people killing people.. The war on terror is a joke.

The government is doing this to americans. Who's next? You? Me?

I can believe this can happen I know of other cases of entrapment. Certainly if one is upset and has so called friends supporting his thoughts and giving encouragement it is highly likely they can do so say something they normally would have never done . . . Brain washing and entrapment is on the raise with the so called war on terror

@scott key: really? The sarcasm may not have come through – it happens.

I know. Trust me, only a small child would not know they have the koran, you have the new testament. The jews have the old testament/torah. You all have different names for your bibles.

Kinda like all your gods have different names, though you all agree it's the same guy.

I guess it doesn't offend you when i say 'their god' and mean allah?
