House OKs spending measure to avert shutdown for week

The U.S. House approved a short-term spending measure Thursday to fund the federal government into next week as part of a deal to avert a partial shutdown over increased disaster aid.

The measure, which the Senate previously approved, now goes to President Barack Obama to be signed into law before the end of the current fiscal year at midnight Friday.

Stop playing these games. This is not funny the way you play with the lives of people and the grief and suffering that is caused. We are better than this and deserve better than this. Please remember we are sacred, capable beautiful beings. PEace to ALL.

Nicely said. It's a shame that's we've forgotten how to be human by way of greed and selfishness.

Then we reach the next fiscal year, which is funded via a different budget (bucket of money.) FEMA ran out of money in this fiscal year because of the number of emergencies.

Thank you congress for showing some cooperation. Even though it is only for one week, it is a step in the right direction. Keep it going!

The reality is that the wing-nuts (TP) are working every angle they can btwn now and next wknd to "shut 'er down". I'll be completely shocked if we don't see major name-calling and fighting btwn the parties over this for the next seven days. Boehner truly has no control, even if he does want compromise.

I think the GOP elders are slowly coming to the realization that the TP infestation in the House (and perhaps among their sorry slate of Presidential wannabees) is harming their brand among independent-minded voters across the country. It may be fun to play "Let's Pretend We're Really in Charge," but the spectators are getting restless, to say the least.
