There may be things money can't buy, but there are a lot of things it can. You can shell out $100,000 on a fancy sports car or $1 million on a nice home, but that's not enough for one New Yorker. He bought an island. To stick with that theme, Gotta Watch looks at some videos showing examples of just what money can buy. Some of the price tags may surprise you.
If you want it, buy it – This New York resident really liked an island he could see from his home, so he bought it. Check out what he got for his money.

$5 for a new car – A lucky Michigan man bought a brand-new car for just a bit more than the price of a gallon of gas. Jonathan Mason purchased a new Chevy Camaro from a penny auction website.

King for a day – Have you ever heard of a country called Liechtenstein? Well, if you have enough money, you can own it... for a day, at least. Rent the small country out for you and 900 of your closest friends for the small price tag of $70,000 a day.

I get the "he made the money he can spend the money" concept but does that still give them the right to consume the same amount of resources as hundreds or even thousands of people? The amount of water used for the lawns and 15 baths, the energy used to heat or cool a monstrous house or even the material used to construct it is just obscene and shameful.
Perhaps, but it is his choice, and it should be his choice. If you forced him to pay for food and rent and such for 20 other people, then what would motivate them to do anything other then drink and reproduce all day? You do that enough, and the economy is in the toilet, and nobody has any $.
Don't forget... they are paying money for all that water, electric, materials etc... that money goes back into economy and creates jobs. The more money spend, the more money goes back to the economy. If you give 5K to a middle-class family, they will likely put it away (rightfully) for "just in case". If you give 5K to a wealthy person, they will go and spend it... its this spending that puts money back into economy. If you pay 1,000$/month in electric, you are making sure the electric company makes money and is able to pay their employees.. so yes, the rich must consume more and pay for it... Also, the 20 guys they hire to build their "monstrous house" would thank them for spending that money and giving them jobs...
Bill Gates could rent this place for almost 2000 years.
I bet Bill gates earns more then $70k a day, and could rent it forever...
Darn, my posts aren't posting.
You're right. We don't see them.
I am looking for 900 friends to help me out. For only about $800 a day, we can take over a country. We will then ask the UN for aid for humanitarian reasons and I bet we get at least a few million. Triple your money, and live like a senator. Who is with me?
heh heh heh
With 900 of your friends it wouldn't be $800/ it would be just over $77...
Follow example of Pakistan, you dont need so many people and you'll get aid in billions, no questions asked.
cnn keeps blocking my response regarding what money is and what it isn't.
Article 1 Sect 10 of the Constution defines money as physical gold and silver. A dollar bill or Federal Reserve Note is not money. hence you can't find the word money on a bill. If you are struggling financially this a big clue! ! ! You have the wrong definition of what money is.
Finally, boogietime for 30 minutes I tried 5 posts that didn't get posted, but there is your answer to nobody has $. I do. 99.5% of the population doesn't becuase they don't know what money is.
The cash that most people know or used to know, is best known as a "Fiat Currency". Hard Currency, or "Money" is indeed based on, or is a precious metal such as Gold or Silver. There is no money in this country. The crap that is printed up is a promise based on nothing.
So what is money, Maurice?
@Maurice:
It was the word const itution that was hanging you up.
I would just like to remind people that the have-nots started getting ticked off at the haves in France once upon a time...and we all know where that lead..."Let them eat cake" ring a bell?
(Not that she actually *said* that...)
Bill gates could buy over 10 billion of those cameros. Thats 10,000,000,000.00
