Pakistan to charge doctor who helped U.S. find bin Laden with treason

A commission is recommending treason charges against a doctor suspected of helping the CIA target Osama bin Laden, Pakistan's information ministry said Thursday.

"A case of conspiracy against the state of Pakistan and high treason is made" against Dr. Shakeel Afridi, the information ministry said, summarizing a commission's investigation into the death of the al Qaeda leader.

The recommendation is nonbinding and it is unclear whether the government will act on it.

Afridi is accused of helping the CIA use a vaccination campaign to try to collect DNA samples from people who lived in bin Laden's compound.

If this happens, the US should stop sending them money immediately. We should never have asked them for help anyway. India is more of an ally to the US, and a mortal enemy of Pakistan.

If Pakistan considers that treason, then it is clear hiding Bin Laden was a "State Effort" and they have just admitted they were hiding him.

You hate them because their government housed a person who killed thousands of our citizens. This is understandable. The desire to nuke an entire population of people, the vast majority of whom are innocents, is disgusting. If you truly feel that we should nuke them you are no better than bin Laden.

      Thank you Corey!

I appreciate that someone here is common sense.

What Pakistan is doing is wrong, but you should not become worse than them to prove that you are better.

The US ratted him out by detailing the methods they used to find bin Laden. The US reported that we drew up plans for and financed the vaccination campaign, stating that the campaign in and of itself was a worthwhile project, while collecting DNA evidence.
