Pakistan to charge doctor who helped U.S. find bin Laden with treason

A commission is recommending treason charges against a doctor suspected of helping the CIA target Osama bin Laden, Pakistan's information ministry said Thursday.

"A case of conspiracy against the state of Pakistan and high treason is made" against Dr. Shakeel Afridi, the information ministry said, summarizing a commission's investigation into the death of the al Qaeda leader.

The recommendation is nonbinding and it is unclear whether the government will act on it.

Afridi is accused of helping the CIA use a vaccination campaign to try to collect DNA samples from people who lived in bin Laden's compound.

He did not commit any act that can be considered as treason against Pakistan, unless of course the Pakistanis considered Bin Laden to be a part of their government or – perhaps – one of their citizens. Very illuminating. It is simply amazing to me that these duplicitous pieces of s–t are charging the doctor with anything. After all, if there was any truth behind the Pakis protestations that they were doing all could to find Bin Laden and "ensuring" the US that OBL was NOT in their country, the good doctor probably throught he was being patriotic by helping his government. Andre' is obviously an al quadea sympathizer and an Idiot.

Pakistan is a terrorist country. Don't trust the government there. The President of Pakistan is also a terrorist himself. All the money USA gave have been spent of purchasing arms for the terrorist.

Pakistan is an enemy of the Western World and of the US.
    Always was.
Even worse, US authorities KNEW it all the time but persisted sending billions in aid in a stupid State Department "chess game" designed to contain India (the US policy makers deeply distrust India, perhaps because of its independent stance and past relations with that old nightmare, the USSR).

Right, krm1007. This doctor needs to indicted and tried and if found guilty should never again be allowed to see the light of day!!! Pakistan needs to stand up to the right-wing thugs in Washington and tell them just where to get off!!! Hopefully, they may wise up and realize the sinister plot of the U.S., Great Britain and France to take over that part of the world.

If Pakistan was truly our ally, this doctor would be made a hero, not a traitor. Let's get out of these crap holes, Afghanistan and Pakistan, NOW. They don't want our help. They only want our money. Too bad we didn't wipe them out, like George Bush wanted, right after 09/11/01.

Does anyone here understand that this doctor was charge with treason for LYING AND SUPPLYING FAKE VACCINATIONS TO INNOCENT CIVILIANS, regardless of WHY he did. If anyone did that here, you would want to charge him with treason as well.

Lying and supplying fake vaccinations doesn't equal a plot to try and overthrow the government of Pakistan. So, charging him with treason is ridiculous. Charge him with malpractice or endangerment of civilians, not treason.

Soooooo, this Doctor implemented this program, and OBL just decided at this point of his life he needed a vaccination shot for ____?
So, he what, strolled down the street to the free clinic and rolled up his sleeve?

It seems to me this "information ministry" should have been a little more forthcoming on OBL's whereabouts.

What about Jonathan Pollard. He was helping our friend get a better understanding of our strategic assets and how best to protect them. Poor guy is still in prison after 20 years.

How many times we going to let this terrorist sponsoring country to slap us in the face and stop sending them bllions of dollars which will only be used against us someday. Enough is enough. Sounds to me like somebody getting a kickback somewhere along the line. We need to use the drones to target their government.....then you'll be getting the terrorists.
