Pakistan to charge doctor who helped U.S. find bin Laden with treason

A commission is recommending treason charges against a doctor suspected of helping the CIA target Osama bin Laden, Pakistan's information ministry said Thursday.

"A case of conspiracy against the state of Pakistan and high treason is made" against Dr. Shakeel Afridi, the information ministry said, summarizing a commission's investigation into the death of the al Qaeda leader.

The recommendation is nonbinding and it is unclear whether the government will act on it.

Afridi is accused of helping the CIA use a vaccination campaign to try to collect DNA samples from people who lived in bin Laden's compound.

Let's find him and pull him out of there...for he is a hero to the world! Pull $$ and everythingelse from Pakistan. We make no distinction between terrorists and the countries that protect them....right?? What are you going to do about it Obama!!

I find myself sadly agreeing with you. I normally take the larger picture/global view but Pakistan has really been a dissappointment for a number of years. Extract the doctor (heck – give him a million dollars – seriously) and remove all aid to Pakistan. It really is "in-question" as to whether Pakistan is still a country.

I guess finding and killing him wasn't enough? Bush couldn't do it in 8 years. Obama is doing just fine.

No Dover, finding him and killing him obviously wasn't enough. Did you read the article? The President now needs to help this doctor.

People of the United States of America.President Obama and SEC. Clinton.
Mr.President and Madam Secretary,What is it going to take to drop the facade that the Pakistanis are our allies? They need to turn over the doctor to us immediately or they will lose something valuable to them. The situation with the Paks will only worsen. Our Military, Civilian Contractors and Diplomates need to be on High Alert for anything to happen. To be Blunt,we should have turned the country into a sheet of glass 10 years ago.

Pakistan is trying very hard to host our next war. Let's give them what they want and turn over the charred remains of a country to India.

the character of the united states on the table -right now.
do allow that doctor to be rail roaded by religious zealots or do we stand by him ....

Treason? Or wounding your pride? Which is it? I understand it must be painful to lick those wounds. A man with a multimillion dollar international bounty on his head is a stone's throw from your top military base AND you "Have no clue" that that was where he was hiding?

It has become even more clear that the Pakistanis are harboring terrorists and are nothing more than a terrorist state themselves. Say bye bye to U.S. monies Pakistan.

We have now been in Afghanistan for 10 years – just like the Russians were. Time to get out – just like the Russians did.
That place is unwinnable in a war. How did we ever get stuck in this quagmire again? Don't we ever learn anything?
    Oops, I guess not.

  12. American Hypocrites

You are all hypocrites. If there was someone in this country that turned over valuable information (BRADLEY MANNING) in which a horrible truth was exposed you would all be calling for his execution or prosecution for TREASON. Nearly all of you are perfect examples of why everyone hates America. You talk out of both sides of your mouth just like the politicians.

If there was a person in the USA that was a wanted criminal by the rest of the world, I for one, would be pleased to have him misteriously killed in this country.

Really? It seems the hypocrites here would be the country that keeps claiming they don't support terrorism but then charges the person who helped take down the most wanted terrorist in the world with treason. Talk about talking out both sides of your mouth.......

To compare a case of espionage to the denial and harboring of a culture of murdering religious zealots, while accepting money from the very country who supports you financially, is one of the dumbest thoughts I think I’ve ever read. You have made everyone on this forum a little denser for having read your post. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.

Let's have perspective here. What does the USA do to Israeli spies; we lock them up for life. I think the Dr is very brave. Maybe we could do some sort of swap or buyout behind the scenes.
