Pakistan to charge doctor who helped U.S. find bin Laden with treason

A commission is recommending treason charges against a doctor suspected of helping the CIA target Osama bin Laden, Pakistan's information ministry said Thursday.

"A case of conspiracy against the state of Pakistan and high treason is made" against Dr. Shakeel Afridi, the information ministry said, summarizing a commission's investigation into the death of the al Qaeda leader.

The recommendation is nonbinding and it is unclear whether the government will act on it.

Afridi is accused of helping the CIA use a vaccination campaign to try to collect DNA samples from people who lived in bin Laden's compound.

Pakistan is charging the doctor as a matter of law, not because it was Bin Laden he help kill. Anyone that secretly collaborates with a foreign government as a spy is a traitor. Nothing new here, the US has similar laws.

Even when the two governments are "allies" and the wanted man is a criminal?

I don't recall any Americans being charged for treason for collaborating with Canada or Britain. Can you find an example for us, Catdog?

From the beginning of the Afghanistan war I suspect that Pakistan was an Al Qaeda and Taliban ally because they escape to Pakistan territory. As Iran and North Korea, Pakistan considers we noncanadian-northamericans as enemies.

That's true when their actions go against the interest of the state. In this case Pakistan is saying the killing of Bin Laden went against the interest of Pakistan, that is a significant claim by a country who claims not th harbor terrorists.

Pakistan was not with the CIA on this. If they were, there would have never been a need to work with this doctor. The Pakistani government would have already taken care of OBL, with or without US help. But clearly, Pakistan was in cohoots with OBL and assisted in hiding him among it's citizens, whom OBL would have gladly killed if meant he could have hid longer on their land.

This is outrageous and just goes to show you that Pakistan was knowingly harboring Osama Bin Laden. Why else would they charge this guy who contributed in the mission to track down Bin Laden with treason? If Pakistan actually goes through with charging this doctor then we need to cut ALL foreign aid to that country and watch it fall all on its own.

Pakistan is becoming our enemy. I say we destroy them before it's too late. Same thing with Iran, North Korea, Syria and pretty soon Turkey. Turkey is feigning that they care about the protesters in Syria right now only because of the refugees fleeing in too Turkey. It's costing them money and they are trying to make themselves look good before the world on human rights issues before they declare war against Israel. Since Pakistan has nuclear weapons we need to act swiftly and strike very hard. We need to know where their nukes are and we need to use everything we can to take them out. I've been wondering if the Boeing space plane that has a cargo bay with equipment in it that is owned by the military and considered "Top Secret" is some kind of special surveillance technology that they are using to spy on other countries that are potential enemies. I bet that's exactly what it is. LOL.

Osama was wanted by the world, so this doctor should be lauded as a hero. Seems to me that Obama needs to pay attention and not assist Pakistan with another dime.

Confusing... I was not aware that turning in the most wanted criminals in the world was an act of treason. Says a lot about the relationship between bin Laden and the Pakistani government...

Pakistan is a muslim country. By definition, Islam is a ideal based on murder, just like the Norse religion practiced by the Vikings. You can defend it all you want because you are brainwashed.
