Obama orders U.S. troops to help chase down African 'army' leader

President Barack Obama is sending about 100 U.S. troops to Africa to help hunt down the leaders of the notoriously violent Lord's Resistance Army.

"I have authorized a small number of combat-equipped U.S. forces to deploy to central Africa to provide assistance to regional forces that are working toward the removal of Joseph Kony from the battlefield," Obama said in letter to the House Speaker John Boehner and Daniel Inouye, the president pro tempore of the Senate. He was making a reference to the head of the LRA.

"I believe that deploying these U.S. Armed Forces furthers U.S. national security interests and foreign policy and will be a significant contribution toward counter-LRA efforts in central Africa."

For those of you playing along at home, this is the insane warlord who has been abducting thousands of children for his "child army of God". He typically kills their families first before enslaving them, and gives them drugs and alcohol to keep them under his control. The Ugandan military are then left with the horrible task of having to fight against and kill these children, or be killed by them.

I'm not saying this is strategically a good move, necessarily, just giving some background.

Thanks for that info BtBC. These are facts I wasn't aware of. But now that being said, Our soldiers are going to be put into the position of having to kill these chidren. That is indeed a sad thought. Has anyone bothered to ask our warriors how they feel about this scenario ?

Let's flash back to the Cinton administration, when he sent american troops into Mogadishu to capture a wanted druglord. I think we all remember how that worked out. Mr. Obama, while I highly respect the job you have been doing for this country, this does not seem like a very wise decision. Once bitten, twice shy ring a bell ?

This seems like an ignorant thing to do. Given the troubles we have here in our own country why are we sending troops overseas. We need to take these same soldiers and put them on the border to fight Mexicans. They could also be used to fight against the hippy wallstreet protesters.

Hippies and Mexicans? Dude, you must be a troll, or just drunk and living in a cave somewhere. That's it, right, just get rid of all the imaginary Hippies and evil Mexicans and life will be happy-happy, just like Leave It To Beaver. Partner, you need a lobotomy.

We have hippy children over here in the US they need to be fighting. The teenage college protesters are getting out of hand. Someone needs to take charge and squash this before it spreads.

Back in Vietnam we had a AC-47 gunship called Puff The Magic Dragon. Basically it was a DC3 plane with GE miniguns. We need to send 1 or 2 of those babies over the wall street protesters. GOODBYE HIPPY PROTESTERS ! 🙂 🙂

This is not new here. SF has been conducing missions in Africa for ages. Publicizing this seems more political than anything

Hippy children ? My god, what era are you living in ? Do you not realize the hippy generation is what us grown ups survived decades ago ? Hate to break it to you, but there are no more hippies.

Seems that we just remove anyone we dislike. I believe this type of action is going to bite us one day.

I don’t know if any of you have every heard of the LRA, but did you miss the part where they are committing hideous crimes against humanity, women and children in particular?

I would *much* rather have our troops stamping out this kind of behavior than just resting on our laurels…

With that mindset, we shouldn’t have helped stop the brutality that was WWII either, right?

    Oh, that’s right.
    We almost didn’t…

I am proud of our POTUS right now to have arrived at this decision, despite the nasty political atmosphere right now.

No, his isn't a country we're going up against...it's an army dedicated to doing nothing but eradicating people they see as the enemy.

You never did answer my qustion yesterday, either.

We're not going after every1 we dislike, but lets play with that supposition for a moment! This is a war Lord who claims to have supernatural powers! His army, made up of kidnapped, indoctrinated children, performs attrocities we've never even heard of & this has continued for at least a decade, some say longer! Does any1 feel there something to like about this murderer!?If Bush was looking for leaders who commit "crimes against humanity", (as he said about Sadam Hussain), he could have been the prez who put Kony away! But he was only interested in $$$ & how he & his cronies could leave the White House rich men, & that's what he accomplished! We have to dispute the Bush Legacy & help where it's needed, because that helps us too! This is 1 Planet y'all, we gotta quit living like we have another 1 to move to! Stuff that happens in the remotest areas of the world can & often do, affect US! Think about it!!

Although Obama can't do anything to help get the economy off the ground, he can always get us into another one of his idiotic wars overseas. No wonder this country's in such a mess! Moreover, I wish that this Tea Partying bozo would stop spewing his right-wing nonsense under my name. This is starting to get old and how!
