Overheard on CNN.com: Let Cain's accusers come forward

Comment of the morning:
"Don't blame the Dems for this one. The Republicans are starting to eat their young." - Nevis

Cain denies harassment allegations

GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain told Fox News he had "never sexually harassed anyone" in response to a Politico report alleging that two women employees settled with the National Restaurant Association after complaining about him when he led that group in the 1990s. The women's names were not released. John Avlon, a CNN political contributor, said Monday that while Cain needs to address the allegations, the story may "smack of opposition research" by another campaign.

Many CNN.com readers said Cain had a right to know his accusers and others said he should just come clean if the story's true. MotherLodeBeth said, "Unless the women come forward and can be grilled on the facts and why they settled, it's all hearsay to me."

Motley said, "Anyone can make allegations of any nature; it does not mean they are true, nor does it mean that if two women did receive separation packages that it was due to harassment. Sorry, I prefer facts to judge someone other than rumors and allegations."

Mr. America said, "He should just say, 'Yes I did it, let's move on.' Now they will get him on lying. Same problem Clinton had."

Many pointed fingers at the Republican Party. pinarello said, "How convenient. Cain starts to gain some traction, and the smears start coming in." Desmond, A Canadian said, "Here they come, typical GOP dirty smears, completely predictable. A sign that Cain is a force to contend with. We all knew that this was going to be an ugly election."

once upon a horse said, "So they are so sure that liberals are the ones that started this, huh? Well lately it seems that it's been more Republicans going after Cain than the left." kravitz said, "Politico is a Republican-owned publication with a conservative Republican tone, not a 'liberal' or even moderate one."

Other CNN.com readers asked who care? Observer said, "Cain's statement that he opposes abortion for any reason tells us all we need to know about his intelligence. This story doesn't matter after that." Bigred said, "Based on his experience in politics, his real grasp of America's political and economic realities, and his knowledge of the works of Washington - all of which amount to zero - we would be hard-pressed to find a less capable candidate."

Brannon said, "Herman Cain was never convicted of sexual harassment. So I couldn't care less. He’s still a brilliant, educated, uncorrupt from the government man with a plan."

Ron said, "I suppose if you dig enough there is bound to be some dirt in everyone's past. Herman Cain is no exception. Let's see how this plays out ..."

Everaldo Jones said, "I don't think a little sexual innuendo should stand between the country and the leadership it needs. We are electing a commander in chief, not a pope."

Are Cain’s handlers saying the charges were never proven or that the harassment never happened? The republicans and Herman can claim he was framed, but the fact that the women were paid-off PROVES the charges were indeed filed! Cain is a failed businessman; he drove the pizza chain in the ground. But, like all rich republican businessmen/ politicians, he just can’t keep his hands off the women! They are employees and should be thankful they have a job – Right???

Cain did not run Godfathers into the ground. Where do you get your information? He saved Godfathers from being shut down and going bankrupt. Failed businessman? Name one business he ever failed at. He excelled in all business positions he held. All those who knew him in the different companies still rave about his excellence. If you are going to attack the man at least do it with facts, if you can think of any. Also, just because a woman (or 2) left with settlements does not mean the settlements were related to these charges which were proven false.

If Cain was a liberal this entire issue wouldn't even get any attention, just kind of an everyday thing.

Another great candidate for the highest office. A former pizza employee that hung out as a business association president (laughable position) and while there fondled the help. And he was recently numero uno in the republican polls? Who are the imbeciles voting for him? Well the other side voted in an inexperience social worker from Chicago that has lived off the government dime all of his life. This is a country that votes based on sound bites and media mind clutter.

Jake, let's not forget that the previous administration was run by someone from a family who's been living off the government dime for three or four generations now. Or did you foget that your tax dollars were paying for their salaries, pensions, and healthcare...you know, the stuff you don't get?

The story is probably true. The actual source of the story probably came from the Perry camp, something that is far more likely than any liberal operative... Hermie probably scares some of those in the Republic Party and some Tea Baggers. To me, he is just a funny dude, a marketing person, who is making and will continue to make tons of $$$ off his unintelligent supporters.

Hermie has 0-0-0 chances of becoming president, but he is going to get very rich off you stupid folks...

Sorry, but "I don't remember anything about a settlement" is not the statement of a blameless man.

As for the far-rights who claim this is just a smear, and a clear sign of how strong Cain is...well, that must mean Casey Anthony is really Mother Theresa, and the liberal press just wants to see her fail, too! *eyeroll*

Sometimes, paranoid and delusional is just...paranoid and delusional.

So what !! No one is perfect and it has nothing to do with the qualifications of being president. Let the media go to hell with that stupid story.

The interesting bit is that he has very few qualifications for being president. He admits to knowing nothing about foreign policy, an area of great presidential power, and he intends to get that with OJT. All he really has is a half-baked (pun intended) plan to funnel yet more billions to his rich buddies, which he calls 999. It's really a 911 call for the 99% who will be hurt by it.

What else has he got? He can sing? Great qualification.

I dont know, but I think Obama is doing a whole lot better than everyone gives him credit for. He has bea alot better president than I would have thought. Corporate america has found it can make greater profits by outsourcing U S jobs and through downsizing. This has nothing to do with Obama. When we opened trade with China, then approved NAFTA, it ruined the economy for the average U S citizen. Obama did hint at repealing NAFTA during his first campaign. Now he has backed away from this stance. I wish he had been stronger and stood up against the greedy corporate profit at any cost republican crooks, but he has turned out to be weak. Maybe if he wins again he will be able to turn things around so the average American will have a chance.

Corporate America has already outsorced most of the manufacturing jobs to Asia and Mexico. It is now outsourcing the technical jobs such as engineering, computer science, and medical research, to India. Companies like AT&T are importing engineers from India into the US because they will work for one third of the regular salary. It is the big corporations that are destroying our country. The corporations supported by the republicans.

Quite true jimmy, quite true. But what can one do about it as long as most people remain ignorant enough to vote for these right-wing fanatics???

Don't worry too much about this one, either. These right-wingers somehow seem to worm their way out of everything!

As some1 has already stated, this makes no difference to me! Herman Cain is his own worst enemy every time he opens his mouth! He has already claimed his spot in history as the most teabaggin' teabag, with the least consideration for human life(electrified fence) & womens health(no ab.ort.ions for ra.pe or inc.est)!I include all candidates until they lose me & Cain is out of my focus now! Election over, Obama/Biden the next4!!
