U.N. agency approves full Palestinian membership
The U.N. agency focusing on education and science voted Monday to accept a Palestinian bid for full membership, in the first vote on the matter by a part of the world body.
The vote, which required two-thirds approval by UNESCO members, passed with 107 votes in favor, 14 against, and 52 abstentions.
The vote is separate from the Palestinian bid for full membership in the United Nations. Representatives of several countries pointed out that currently that bid is being discussed by members of the U.N. Security Council.
Huge applause broke out at the meeting in Paris when the results of the vote were announced.
The vote risks the agency - the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - losing its U.S. funding, which accounts for more than a fifth of its budget.
Some U.S. lawmakers have threatened to cut off the funding, which a spokeswoman for the U.S. Mission to UNESCO said totals $80 million a year.

Pakistan is nothing but a false ally. They take our money each year and throw us a token kill every now and then.
The ones they get rid of though is some little fish that no longer serves their needs. They are playing both sides of the field and they are not going to do anything to aid in the capture/demise of the big dogs. After all, they paid for their allegience too. A muslim will side with a muslim before anyone else.
@ bobcat, that was kinda my point also. I dont believe the U.S. should be funding this. And it will only educate them further to use that education that we pay so much for AGAINST US! And the general U.S. population should be the l's voting on funding!
Finally, the Palestinians deserve it. The US should embrace the Palestinian state.

(Chrissy) Considering that the US has spent $1274447107024 on financing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and has done nothing to improve East/West relationships or decrease fear at home amongst its own people. 80 million doesn't sound so much. We all know where the real big bucks are going, let's not kid ourselves.
@ mj, cant change the past but we got a chance to change the future correct? $80 million a year on this, stop giving handouts to these countries that are bent on destroying everyone in their path is another way and STOP fighting in wars that arent ours!!

There are tens of millions of Americans who are homeless or are facing foreclosures or who have lost their jobs,, there are tens of millions of American children living on food stamps, there are tens of thousands of schools, highways, brdges et al that need to be repaired in the US, and Israel-Firsters keep on demanding that WE, The American Taxpayer, continue to pay this parsitic leeching welfare state while needy Americans are desperate?.

Like most most American politicians from both the Democratic and Republican parties who have simply become slaves of the American Israel Public Affairs Committtee (AIPAC), Ros-Lehtinen has her tongue slavishly buried so far up where the sun doesn't shine in the backside of AIPAC that she won't say squat about why Israel (who Israel-Firsters constantly claim is so economically great and advanced and such a success and blah blah blah....), continues to feed off the trough of America like some sort of leech for fifty plus years to a cost amounting to hundreds of billions of dollars ($5 billion plus per year), and still counting!!!.
After all, if Israel is as successful as Israel-Firsters claim that it is, then it is is only reasonable to expect that it will be able to stand on its own instead of coming cap in hand like a street corner hobo demanding never-ending charity from Americans without any end in sight. After all, countries of comparable size to Israel like Sweden and Norway are all making it on their own without needing or asking for American aid.
Logically, the tax dollars of hard-working Americans should be reserved for truly needy Americans or perhaps third world countries like Ethiopia, Angola, and so on and not a so-called successful nation like Israel is (as Israel-Firsters constantly claim Israel is!!!!).
Ohhhh well, I guess Israel-Fisrters from AIPAC have so well corrupted America's body politic that Americans have only started to notice how Israel-Firster politicians like Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Florida, chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, betrays America and our values and that her actual allegiance is to Israel and not to America.
Americans should demand that Israel-Firster politicians like Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Florida, chairwoman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, and other American politicians initiate an effort to get on the record the actual testimony of eyewitnesses and survivors to Israel's murderous attack on the USS Liberty where Israel murdered 34 unarmed young American sailors and injured hundreds more in international waters (including strafing survivors in life rafts), as the official web site of the survivors shows, and which you can google for yourself:
For forty plus years, the USS Liberty incident has remained the only imilitary attack where USS military personnel were attacked by a foreign power, namely, Israel, and where the testimony under oath of the survivors/victims has never been taken by Congress, and where there have been efforts made to whitewash and attack even the survivors of the murderous Israeli attack on USS Liberty, for demanding justice:

UNESCO's claim on their website of their "... unique competencies in education, the sciences, culture and communication and information" seems to have gone bye-bye with their acceptance of the Palestinians to their fold. The Palestinians have for years taught their children, orally in mosques and in writing in their textbooks, that Jews are descendants of apes and monkeys, that all Jews should die, and that Israel should be annihilated. Education? Science? Culture? Communication? Information? All funding to UNESCO should be immediately stopped.
