Alaska faces one of its worst storms ever, forecasters say

Alaska is facing a life threatening winter storm with near hurricane force winds, more than a foot of snow and severe coastal flooding, the National Weather Service says.

"This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening storm which will be one of the worst on record over the Bering Sea and the west coast," NWS forecasters said in a bulletin Monday afternoon.

The storm was about 600 miles southwest of Shemya in the far western Aleutian Islands on Monday afternoon and was expected to move over the Bering Sea toward Alaska's west coast on Tuesday.

Winds near hurricane force of 74 mph were expected to generate seas as high as 25 feet in the northern Bering Sea, forecasters said. The winds were expected to raise sea levels as much as 9 feet in the Norton Sound. Those levels combined with the high waves were expected to cause significant coastal erosion and major flooding. The winds may also push sea ice on shore, adding to the dangers, NWS forecasters said.

Alaska's west coast could also see as much as 14 inches of snow in blizzard conditions, forecasters said. The storm was expected to last into Wednesday.

Pacific waters are warm, perhaps, more than usual in a long time. The low pressure storm is another data point reflecting that.

Anthropomorphic ( Man Made )Global warming is a small % of the causes of warming and cooling of the Earth...98% is Volcanic and natural processes...The Methane produced by rotting Plants...and living organisms...The natural emissions of CO2 and other gases dwarfs any Human contribution...30 years ago the very same Leftists so called "Experts" said the Earth would be a Giant snowball if we didn't stop.." Global Cooling...! Al Gore and is Sycophants are running an Extortion scam with Phoney Carbon Credit exchanges....It's all about corrupt wealth making for Leftists Elites...!

You think with a few $5 words you can make a convincing argument. I want to see your data. Nature maintains a balance that we are screwing up. Why does it upset you so much that those who spend their lives studying the environment have issued this warning? You are paranoid if you think it is to enrich themselves. Rather it is the rest of us who are enriching ourselves with cheap products made at the expense of our planet. Admit that you are a layman and then fly into Beijing or even LA sometime and tell us that what you are seeing and breathing is methane from rotting plants.

Yeah, the creator of the universe needs little minions like us to validate and worship "him". That makes a lot of sense. Bow down, bow down. Sounds like something a sick human might wish for.

Its amazing to watch the loons on this website attempt to defend global warming or climate change. Lets start with the idea that "Climate change will produce more extreems." That is what the excuse is today. Just look back at the IPCC's reports from the 90's about their predictions for today. According to the models we should be getting almost no snow. Now because that prediction failed the mantra changed. "The moisture is increasing allowing for more snow." Pattenly absurd, 3/4 of the world is covered by water, but only now we have enough moisture to cause snow is laughable. Anyone who looked at the emails or even had an ounce of common sense can see right through this scam. Not to mention the news the other day *probably not on CNN* that no change in average temps in 13 years. I guess global warming took a vacation, but not before it could create this snow storm with all the extra moisture just hidding out biding its time. Oh and if CO2 is the cause of global warming i don't know where it went the last 13 years. But just keep lying to yourself and dismiss real science and facts with personal insults, the last desperate act of ignorance.

People, this is about weather, not politics! It will not matter who is president, because no one can control the weather! The post by Jarno (like it or not) is essentially correct. We have been experiencing on a planet wide basis, more and more weather extremes and we will continue to have these no matter what we do now, because it is too late. Even the Koch brothers know this is true. (like it or not) It is quite possible that we have reached the "tipping point" and there may be very little we can do until whatever changes come about & the atmospheric situation stabilizes somewhat. (not in our lifetime). We can only hope for the best as we attempt to find better forms of energy & conservation of natural resources. There are many ways to do this, but we have to do the research and the work necessary to bring about the changes which will slow down the climate changes without disrupting our economic & social order any more than it already has. There is a lot of work ahead of us people! Quit arguing & roll up your sleeves or learn to tread water!

To all the wacko's who think that all this climate change is related to man. Climb back into your cave, climate change is a NATURAL phenomenon and cannot be controlled by man.

Nice argument, Nonyabusiness. BUT, you have several spelling errors, pay attention: it is EXTREMES, PATENTLY, BIDING. So get off your soapbox and find a dictionary, dummy.

whether there is climate change is without question, man made, or not is not the problem, the problem is there are some that would bankrupt the world, to line their pockets with trillions. that is the benefit they are after by causing the global warming panic. the cost/benefit study is the greatest joke ever played. can you tell me where the carbon credit scam reduces CO2 by any worthwhile amount? i didn't think so.
